Android,

Looks like the flag for Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Like so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bande ... rasil2.svg

The poster in the background looks like it's for this guy: http://www.camara.gov.br/internet/deput ... ?id=522328

Thanks a bunch, Wombat. I suspected it was from Brazil I but didn't know it was a city flag.

In return, more goodies:

Rio is actually a "state", so it's more like the Oregon flag than a Portland flag. And, yes, the capital of Rio de Janeiro is Rio de Janeiro. It's weird, but welcome to Brazil.

And the answer on number of grenades is: how many do you want? Grenades are cheap relative to other potential expenses.

And i might be wrong , but those guys could be Grenadiers and their main role is to put grenades down range , so 12 is what you see , but they would have more somewhere else.

In the olden days, people's primary weapon was an M79 "Thumper"--they wore a vest covered with 40mm grenades, and their main gun was a grenade launcher.

The standard load right now is 210 rounds and 6 HE grenades. That's 7 30-round magazines and a few boom booms. Often units will carry upwards of 10-12 magazines and 12 boom booms.

The belt he has on his chest is often worn around the waist as a belt. It was designed originally to be worn from a shoulder to opposite side as a bandolier I think, but not many people do that.

Grenadiers are used to hit defilade positions. They can hit using trajectory where other's can't. They can also place smoke at long distances to cover movement. Grenadiers are the third most important person in a fire team after the Team Leader and the Automatic Rifleman (AR/SAW gunner).
