How adventurous are you when it comes to food at an event?

Postby Pope_Alex_Kaeda_I » Thu Jul 01, 2010 3:28 pm

Lets say you're going to an event, and the event is set in a strange foreign country? Part of the event is that the event promoter/host is taking care of the food arrangements. How authentic do you you want the food to be?

Example: at Manicotti II, set in South/Central America we had Tacos and Nachos.

If an event was set in Afghanistan, would you want to eat semi-authentic Afghan food? If an event was set in Vietnam, would you want to eat semi-authentic Vietnamese?

Or would you prefer a Hot Dogs and Hamburgers barbeque?

I think that depends on who's making the food.

Authentic. it adds to the feel of the game.

If you could get everyone to show up to a game, and pack to the AO with only needed gear (All in a back pack or two) to play a game.. Hot Damn. i would pay you 80$ for a quality game that fully get me into it.

Sure. But don't go bananas on the cost just to try to feed the participants a semi-authentic meal.

Personally I'd rather have a lower cost, good quality event where I eat Odwalla bars all day than an expensive event where I get a portion of crappy food and have to stop playing for two hours to wait in line to get it.

F**K YES.

I love to cook, so I love to try new food. I think that Afghan food would be awesome, especially if you set up like a cafe or something at a village that units can go to when they're on patrol. Get some people to cook the food/act like villagers ;)

Thats the part when there is a customer complaint about BB's in his food right?

; )

Nasty - thats part of the plan. If the generator had been able to run the hot plate at Manicotti II, it would have been possible to run the Cantina as a "walk up and 'buy' food" establishment for the most part, instead of having a "everyone eat at once".

As I'm starting to plan Manicotti III, one of the things I'm looking into is options for food, to help immersion.

I'd love to see this pulled off. No offense Alex but tacos and nachos is semi-authentic South American fair?

Yes. Yes it is. South-Central America *nods*

Last time I checked, Tacos were considered Mexican cuisine, and Mexico is in 'Central America', and San Theodoros is somewhere south of the Rio Grande border..... ;)

We're running an airsoft game, not a restaurant. We're just looking at some of the options to keep things cost-effective, and 'semi-authentic' to help people 'experience country X'

when i was the CO. for OP:solomans pass, i invited all the warlords to my house for a night of feasting on $200 worth of dates, pita bread, lamb, humas, falafels, the works.

i think that it is a great idea alex.

if your senario is ever in japan and you need a sushi chef.....yea!

I actually think this is a fantastic idea. You could always extend game play by a couple hours, and have like an hour to hour and a half lunch break in the middle. Let people eat, reload, hydrate, chase fanny, etc.

Considering it. I know Helo has some plans with tea at the village...
