just recently my freinds father bought a large peice of land in the southernteer(if your not aware its lower NY/upper PA) that is fairly thick with large trees but not too thick, and said that we could use all we want for airsoft, so im planning on getting a good gun set up before this spring-fall complete with upgrades to acompany my ghillie. and back to topic, im still unsure of the ECHO 1 g3 or CYMA m14

Wait if you're playing the marksman role, why would you be wearing a ghillie? You want to be mobile so you can keep up with the rest of your squad.

I think you aren't quite clear as to the distinction between the roles of a squad DM and a sniper are.

The Designated Marksman (DM) is a military marksman role in a U.S. infantry squad. The term sniper is used in Soviet and Russian doctrine. The analogous role in the Israeli army is "squad sniper."

The DM's role is to supply rapid accurate fire on enemy targets at ranges up to 800 meters (870 yd) with a highly-accurate semi-automatic rifle equipped with a telescopic sight. Like snipers, DM's are trained in quick and precise shooting, but unlike the more specialized "true" sniper, they are also intended to lay down accurate rapid fire.

The DM role differs significantly from that of a specially trained sniper. A sniper is a specialist highly trained in field craft who carries out a range of specific missions independent of others, and more specialized than standard infantry tasks. In contrast, a DM is a soldier who has received some additional marksmanship training. The DM's role is to provide an additional capability to the infantry platoon, which is the ability to engage targets at greater ranges than the other members of the squad or section.

The DM operates as an integral member of the infantry platoon, providing a niche capability contributing to the overall firepower of the platoon in the same way as a grenadier with a rifle-mounted grenade launcher, or the gunner who employs the squad/section machine gun. The DM weapon provides a capability to the infantry platoon in the shape of increased precision at a greater range than that provided by the standard infantry rifle, by virtue of its sighting system and/or larger caliber. By comparison, the sniper role is much more specialized with very comprehensive selection, training and equipment.

Snipers are ordinarily equipped with specialized, purpose-built bolt-action or semi-automatic sniper rifles while DMs are often equipped with accurized battle rifles or assault rifles fitted with optical sights.

Snipers are mainly employed for targets at ranges of up to 1,400 meters (1,530 yd) or more using rifles with larger ammunition while DMs are utilized for targets at ranges of up to 800 meters (870 yd) using a rifle chambered with standard-issue rifle ammunition. In addition, snipers often take a fixed strategic position and camouflage themselves (e.g. with a Ghillie suit) while a DM will generally move with his or her unit and be otherwise equipped in the same way as other members of the infantry platoon.

thankyou for clearning that up. i suppose im looking to be a DM but we play with a small amount of people, teams of 5 or so, and the only reason im not just going to upgrade my bolt action is because i found it incapable to stay active in the game ect.(while i try to snipe, my team advances and clear the whole way and win in a matter of min. or the area we play is not clear enouugh for the distance advantage of my bolt action to shine through, an aeg would do the job just fine. so i might scratch the ghillie and continue with the DM role in my squad. not to mention im the only one with a bolt action

If you're going to buy a plastic G3, you might as well save some cash and get a JG, the gun that echo1 sells anyway.

The silencer is completely up to you, as it's what YOU think looks good.

I would recommend the G3, the M14, even for a shorter period of time is very heavy. Another thing to consider is, when your running with a squad, you want your gun to be shouldered and ready to fire most of the time, M14's are very long, and thus are exponentially heavier when shouldered to fire. Take this from a guy who lugged around a CA M14 for a year. G3's have built in bipods too :D

If you like the M14 look, go for a SOC16 (short M14). If upgraded properly, it can be just as accurate as a full size m14. Ask Nocte.

yeah, i would save some money on the g3 with the built in bipod. does anyone know what the actual weight diference between the two is? ive never held the g3 but i have owed a lower quality(spring, plastic, and after a full dissasebly of that peice of poop, lead weights left and right) m14 and it didnt seem too hevy or long.but thankyou carpet for the 1st hand opinion. but i dont think length is going to be a HUGE factor that will affect my gameplay, as of either gun i buy i wish to buy a silencer and in turn, a longer inner barrel.

Total *shipping* weight difference between the JG G3 and CYMA M14 is a whopping 320 grams. AKA 11 ounces.

I wouldn't bee a fan of the G3 because of the plastic body. I've worked on enough plastic mp5's to know its a pain to take down a similar plastic bodied rifle. Besides the design in plastic feels cheap to me. M14 will be heavy though. I have a friend who got one and moded it to shoot 200 feet for less than $200. All you really need to do is put in a firefly bucking and a high quality barrel and you should be good.
