Thoughts on TM AEP?

Postby ~Thunder~ » Thu Feb 04, 2010 3:17 pm

Hopefully this is the right forum considering the item in question is not a GBB, but an 'AEP'...

Personally, i like the idea of charging a battery much more than buying co2 (even if that does mean lower fps).

More realistic blow-back action doesn't interest me on an electric as it seems like a waste of energy.

So, that said, i'm looking for thoughts (i.e. constructive criticism) on AEP's. Specifically this lil' fella...

TM G18C (fixed slide)

Thanks in advance! :D

Pros:
Greater consistency shot to shot
Long range (for a pistol, at low FPS)

Cons:
Extra mags are a phony pony to carry since they aren't shaped like normal pistol mags.

Tim, Aren't CO2 pistols also more consistent than regular green gas/propane filled guns? IIRC, CO2 is not affected by air temp nearly as much, so it would still be relatively even for a while, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't have any CO2 pistol experience.

CO2 is less effected by temperature, but over the life of the cartridge your output decreases. Same as green gas guns, except green gas has the cooldown effect as well.

Awesome, thanks Variable. (i dig your straight Pro vs Con reply)

Well, i don't have my shite together enough to worry about the PIA factor for carrying mags. At this point i'd be lucky to make it to a field with M4 mags in my pockets, lol.

Also, i'm looking for something not too expensive that would serve just a couple needs.
a) Close range (i'd rather shoot you with a pistol than say "safety kill")
b) If i drive two hours to a game and my sole AEG takes a dump on me i wouldn't have to immediately head home with my tail between my legs.

I owned a TM MP7 and while it was a fun little thing, the ROF and FPS are pretty weak. Getting upgrades for them as well is not really on the cheap side. That being said, getting an AEP pistol will work more consistently than a GBB, especially on full auto.

AEP are great sidearms. Especially since the Marui ones atleast run on AAA batterys wich makes it easy and cheap to carry extra batteries with you when your AEG decides to crap out.

Nikan, theres two kinds of Electrics:
AEP - Non blowback, runs on 7.2v battery pack
EBB - Blowback, runs on AAAs.

He's asking about the AEP kind.

I thought the Marui ones used their own "Micro" style batteries?

I apologize and disregard my comment. I did not look at the link to notice he was looking at the AEP one.

Correct.
The Marui G18 AEP uses a proprietary battery that you remove the slide to install.

The EBBs use AAAs in the grip IIRC.

Not gonna lie, it's kind of a dickish thing to shoot someone you have the drop on. If you do safety kill them, and they don't honor it, then go ahead and shoot them. But at least give them the opportunity to surrender.

b) If i drive two hours to a game and my sole AEG takes a dump on me i wouldn't have to immediately head home with my tail between my legs.

If this is your fear, I'd suggest looking into the UTG/TSD line of spring shotguns. An AEP still has a bunch of things that can go wrong, however a spring shotgun has many less parts. I loved mine. They shoot 3 bb's at once, and are generally not very powerful (read: at/under 300fps). If you can get kills with a pistol, then you'll definitely get kills with the shotgun. Just another option.

Jewish Ninja, when you say low ROF are you talking only with full auto, or is it slow responding to semi auto trigger pulls?
As far as low FPS, is it acceptable for a sidearm, or are you saying it sucks regardless?

Exactly.
This lil' fella runs on some kind of 7.2 micro mini battery (i believe it lives in the slide?)

The fps is on the low end when compared to gas powered sidearms, but in my experience it was still more than enough to make people call their hits up to nearly 75 feet. (but don't expect it to penetrate any vegation)

The trigger response and rate of fire are actually decent, but it will start to dive pretty quickly after extended use. Even when the charge is weak I found it to be very functional however.

And yes, the battery sits underneath the barrel.
I need that mercedes fixed by noon!

Trigger response was great, but on full auto, it was on the weaker side.

The FPS is ok, but still low for any weapon IMHO. You don't really need to max out your FPS, but its nice when your shots get there before your target dies of old age.
