patch suggestions

Postby Shiloh » Wed Jan 27, 2010 3:25 pm

Okay, since the team isn't officially started, I'm not going to post it in the team forum.

But what I'm looking for is simple input from the community on a few things.

First off, this is the patch I've been designing for the team me and a good associate are forming. It's going to be a contractor/OPFOR team, still deciding exactly what direction we're going in.

Image
(FYI, the excess green around the main circle will be cut out. I'm just too lazy to do it now.)

What do you guys think? I drew up a basic idea and then went to work on photoshop. I might add a bit more around the border, but I wanted to get your guy's thoughts first.

Second off, should we really go for a PMC/OPFOR team? Do we already have enough? Keep in mind I'm in northwest Washington, where there are very few teams.

Lastly, what are some tips from people who have been running teams? I'm planning on having a very basic command structure, not too much formality. I've got around six people right now who would join if I got it up and running, a few more said they would be interested.

Thanks for taking the time to read it all, tell me what you think!

Mods, if this should go someplace else, mod away. :)

Words are too small. You'll have trouble reading them on a patch smaller than 3", and you don't want a huge team patch (in terms of cost and looking weird). I'd make the words and the images inside larger in perspective to the circle, you have a lot of negative (empty) space in your patch.

id shorten the text to "ISC Inc." and make it larger, maybe space it around some of the open space on the patch, like nic said. don't make the patch larger than 3", or it will look ridiculous like the GS2 dinner plate patches they made for that event.

What Nic said. I would also make all of the elements on the inside larger, the gray banner, the diamond, the star and the bolts. Make them all larger. They can overlap that inner circle. You are probably not going to see any detail on those targets either, they'll look like blobs on the finished patch.

i thought the same thing...abbreviate that verbage.

The cross-hairs by the banner seem like a good idea, but not sure how they'd look on a finished patch. Aside from that, lightening bolts are always cool on a patch. :D

Good start man!

try curving the lettering to the circle and dropping the underline. the circle will do that for you

Make the star bigger, center it on the black field you made it on. Make the lightning bolts bigger. Make the grey banner and arrow bigger. The crosshairs on the sides of the banner aren't going to show up on a patch, either. I'd also suggest putting a black border on the banner so it looks more three-dimensional.

Don't get in a hurry to have a finished design. If you rush through it, your patch gets made with a rushed design, and by then its too late.

Clean that up a little (I did the editing in MS Paint because I'm at work).

Thanks for all the input! I'll get going on the patch design soon.

Any other tips from team leaders? Just trying to get a feel for what the do's and dont's are.

Small words and intricacies are an easy way to make your patch too busy. Simple is good, and can still look awesome. Drop the range targets and turn the lightning bolts around. I think you'll be happier.

Thanks, I'll put some more work into it soon.

As for running the team itself, what are some things I should know? I listened to OPSEC airsoft radio on their team-building episode, and it seemed like good info. Basically along the lines of; You're in charge for a reason, stick to your guns. Don't allow exceptions unless necassary, don't make people do push-ups.
