Boots

Postby Hoff » Wed Dec 30, 2009 8:40 pm

I just found out that my work will spend up to $200 on me for a new pair of boots.

I've been looking at danners; but wanted to see if anyone had other suggestions.

Needs to be black and I'd prefer a steel toe and zippers (I know the danners have the lace in zippers).

They'll be used for the low speed - high drag field of private security guarding. Also for EMS.

I don't think you can do much better than danners.

Danners are awesome, I wouldn't really consider anything else if you can afford the factory seconds (which you can for $200). My Ft. Lewis boots are factory seconds because there was a wrinkle in the leather (OMG) which obscures the Danner logo on the back of the boot. $180 instead of almost $400. bleeding sweet.

Yeah, if you can make it to the outlet store on Airport Way in Portland, you can find awesome deals on Danner boots. I recently found a pair of discontinued Stingers at the local flea market here in Maine for $60. Checking online, they usually retailed for $160. :)

I mentioned to my father-in-law that I was interested in some Danners for airsoft, and he seriously frowned upon them because they are made in China. I haven't verified that myself, but he was really giving me sh*t for considering them.

If you have $200 to spend on boots, get a pair of RedWing boots. 100% USA made
Thats what I use for my Job, bought them on clarence sale for $80 (originally $120).

I recently got a pair of Danner Acadias from the outlet store that Android mentioned, usually $240 boots and I got them for $90. I got that becasue they were factory seconds, which are 25% off now, but they have some extra wear, so I got 50% off the already discounted price.
Even without the 50% off discount, the boots were sub-$200 from the factory seconds room. They also have insulated ones, which are nice if you're out in the cold.
Granted, this style has niether a steel toe nor zippers, but they're nice nontheless. I think I found some Ft. Lewis style ones there with a steel toe, for around $120 if I recall correctly.

Hoff, Look at the hard toe Telsons with the zip sides.

I love mine.

Only thing better would be a custom pair of Whites, But thats crazy money.

I've had:
Altima Jungle Boots - Starting to show wear after 4 years
Converse Desert Boots - Lasted one year of playing every weekend
Danner Temperate boots - Haven't had them long enough to see. Very nice to wear though.
Merrill hiking boots - shazaam yes. If they had a few more inches of ankle protection I'd wear them for airsoft more often
Magnum boots - Fell apart after 5 months of use

Had some Itascas that lasted me 6 years, probably would only last one of heavy use though.

i have a pair of bellevilles that are great that ive worn for airsoft for the last three years or so. my daily wear boots are a cheapo pair of RGs that i bought used for $20 and are still holding up fine after six or seven years of daily wear. when the time comes for a new pair, ill probably buy danners unless i can find another cheapo pair of these RGs.

@Chaci_RC, Some of the Danner hikers or light hikers are made in China. All of their Duty Boots are made right here in Portland, OR, USA.

Cool, thanks for the info Commie. Like I said, I hadn't verified what he told me yet. He is a vet, and pretty adament about that kind of thing. I will fill him in....It will be fun to correct him, being that he is an in-law and all. :p
