Proposed vehicle rules for AP

Discuss anything and everything here that's Airsoft related.

I you want the occupants to be subject to hits then maybe have a hit limit before they have to go and respawn. In addition to that, have a reasonable respawn time for the vehicle. Time enough to have "repairs" done to the vehicle and allow the attackers to continue a bit before the vehicle can engage them again. That way the vehicle is not the dominating factor in the game.
Warning: If you are feeble and cringe at the sound of metal your face might implode.

Something that I've never seen airsoft employ, and might be fun for some scenarios, is using vehicles as mobile respawn points. Sure, all the above rules would need to be employed, but that would be a good feature.

As to rules in general, we need to keep talking. For example, we're talking about armored vehicles but regular windows don't count. What if I put a mesh screen over it to stop BB's? Does that make it "armored" ???

I think they did that at OPGS3? The US forces used their "plane" as a mobile respawn. Myself and osme others caught a ride w/ them at one point.

The main issue I have had with vehicles in play is during one Op up here, they didn't let us know that "technicals" would be used on the field, so when the first appeared we are all flabbergasted. And than later in the game, I was talking to the admin when the technical appeared beside me hauling a trailer full of the enemy, there was no dead rag on my head, so it was obvious I was still in play.

So when they pulled up I asked them if they were dead, when they said they weren't dead, I pulled up my M-16 (which had a 203 on it) and basically killed like 16 people with a grenade. However when every one whined and complained about it, they didn't consider it a safety kill, they considered it a "parley", even though no one called it, or like I said it was obvious that I was still alive and in play during the game and they could have easily shot me while they were driving up.

I think to try to maintain some semblance of realism, that if there is some attempt to make it resemble an armored vehicle. it would be considered "armored. Not just billy bob and his green ford pickup. Input?

how about my vintage tube frame minibike (not those pocket bikes, it's more like a small moped) from 1968? It is kinda beat up so i wouldn't have a problem using it. I sure insurgents have used something of the like...

Here's the ruleset from Grid 18:

Grid 18 Vehicle Rules wrote:Vehicle General Rules
    1. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE, IF YOU BRING IT, YOU ASSUME THE RISKS.
    2. Top speed is 10 mph, do not drive faster
    3. Do not drive in heavy underbrush, stick to roads and pathways
    4. Players must remain 10 feet away from moving vehicles, no mad grenade rushes
    5. ALL vehicles must be cleared by the admin before they can be used in the game
    6. Armored vehicles are impervious to BBs, DO NOT light them up because you cannot kill them. (armor is considered any wood or metal plating on the vehicle - window glass does not count, has to look like actual armor)
    7. You CAN kill drivers or occupants of non-armored vehicles, trucks, jeeps, etc
    8. You CANNOT capture or hi-jack a vehicle, only pre-designated drivers can operate them.

Vehicle Hit Rules
    1. Vehicles must be hit by a foam projectile fired from an M203 or other launcher device (spring or gas operated) to be disabled.
    2. 1 hit = disabled vehicle. 2 hits = everyone inside is dead.
    3. Vehicles either use emergency flashers or a red flag to signify "disabled"
    4. Remain stationary for 5 minutes after being hit, then drive back to your CP (or as close as you can get) to respawn
    5. Listen to players when they tell you the vehicle is hit, take their word for it. You may not see it. If you see the vehicle get hit, let them know they are down.

Possibly just changing this up so that exposed gunners on both types of vehicles are vulnerable to gunfire would work. Maybe add 1 additional rule to not intentionally aim at the driver (since they have to drive). I might also add that vehicle drivers must show a valid driver's license upon registration at the game.

My concerns with the vehicles center around how to ensure that the opposing force has the weaponry to ensure that they have the ability to "kill" the vehicle. I know that most events that have been in the local area (whether or not they were Airsoft Pacific games) use nerf footballs or grenades as "kills", but they choose to let the participants supply these assets. If, for some reason, the individual(s) bringing the M203 and the nerf footballs fail(s) to show, suddenly that force doesn't have the AT weapons and spends its day trying to take out the vehicle with small arms fire, which is not always terribly effective.

I know that Bergret uses an self-developed IR-based system that basically looks like an AT-4 to "kill" vehicles by lighting up a target on the vehicle for a specificed duration (1 or 2 seconds) which causes a light to appear in the driver's visual range and a smoke generating device to go off, simulating a "hit". The devices are owned by the organization and loaned out to vehicles participating in the event.

My questions are thus: is there interest in such a system locally? I'm willing to sink some R&D into figuring out the hardware if folks are interested in using it.

Wombat, I feel your pain ( sorry I could not resist) I seem to recall a pretty spirited discussion regarding bringing the APC when I asked c-tac if it was wanted at EOL.....nobody on the US side (4:! numerical superiority) chose to communicate regarding bringing anything to take it out. Im having trouble feeling any sympathy regarding the vehicles. I suppose Brock or I could have loaned the outnumbered US our 203s and rockets so they could take us out with our own weapons...........
By the way could you help me develop some electronic detonators for future events....I have the ideas but not the electronic technical skills to do it?.........nix this.....lets keep this on topic.......

if you do that you will have alot more people willing to volunteer their vehicles for games since they wont get shot by anything but the IR
