Well, if accuracy and compactness are what make you like the AUG, might i recommend an L85? The Army brand one is only $185 new. They use M4 magazines, so you can share, and not need to buy new ones, and the mag changes, while not nearly as fast as an Armalite, are relatively speedy. The weapon has the same benefits as you stated the AUG has, a platform shorter than an M4, with a 509mm inner barrel. It's a bit heaver than the AUG, though, and feels a bit awkward to some, so your mileage may vary.

the controls on the L85 are ridiculous. otherwise its not a bad rifle. ive heard mixed things about the Army ones though. some people love them and some people hate them.

id personally go with an AUG over an L85.

I've had both the AUG and the L85, and the L85 kicks its a$$ hands down. And my complaints aren't too general, they're things that I've learned by owning the piece of crap that it is. The ARMY R85 is a wonderful gun that will make you happy if you disable the EBB.

I can do that with an Aug. Easily my favorite gun.
