Yes but you don't have to worry about that this time. :D

Matt wrote:I think there should be 2 classes of vehicle:

1. Armored: An armored vehicle with mounted or internal guns. Impervious to regular small arms fire. This vehicle can shoot the shit out of you and you can't do anything about it unless you have a LAW, M203 with foam projectile, or you can throw grenade into a hatch or an opening.

2. Technicals: Are all regular vehicles, jeeps, etc. Vulnerable to small arms fire. You can shoot the gunner(s) and the driver. Once all people are dead in the vehicle, including the driver, they turn on their flashers or raise their flag and drive to a spawn point. A law rocket or anti-vehicle projectile will disable the vehicle and kill everyone inside. They'll wait 5 minutes then drive to respawn.

This is the same thing I was suggesting, really. If you have enough armor, you're impervious to fire. If not, you're going to get shot up, and maybe your field vehicle is more of a troop transport/mobile cover and not an attack vehicle. 1 & 2 can apply to all vehicles.

...but one thing...the APC rules were annoying...you should be able to shoot exposed passengers/drivers on the APCs (not have them be invincible until the vehicle is dead)...and you should be able to disable APCs by either grenading them (not just rocket them) or shooting the drivers (if possible)

...and whatever happened to the scientist? The only time I saw her was before the game started at the briefings...then she disappeared

but anyhow...I enjoyed the clusterfuck of a game...looking forward to the next one

The reason why you can't disable them by shooting the drivers or the gunner is that they have a top speed of 10 MPH for safety. If you could shoot them, they would become a bullet magnet and die almost instantly after entering the field. Basically, they would be useless.

hmmm...gotcha...but can we use grenades on them too next time? :D

You should have been able to use them this time. The vehicle drivers were supposed to know that if a grenade lands inside the vehicle, everybody is dead. If it lands outside, they're ok. But, that could have been lost in translation.

Yeah, this particular route was lost on me (and in fact, I briefed that it was a waste of a grenade against a vehicle).

One more thing to correct (or at least explain better) in the ruleset I'm building out for Golden Claw.

I gotta say - I loved the vehicle usage and look forward to it again in (hopefully) future OPs. It added a new level in usage of armor and firepower. I didn't have much trouble with folks not calling their hits, and that was quite refreshing - I only had 2 incidents of 'delayed calling' - the first was a guy in marpat that didn't call his initial hit but then another massive hosing from the RPK and he called it. Another was a guy in a ghillie that flinched when I single fired on him in the shoulder then got up to run away, but another long hosing from the RPK and he called it.
I also had folks that got shot, and then didn't say anything, just got up and walked away without pulling a dead rag. They bitched afgter getting hosed again, but how am I going to know unless they call it?

The only drawbacks I had weren't game related, but were informational - I didn't know I was the squad leader for my squad until after we had mounted the field, and I also didn't know that the jeep was on *our* side - I heard the FOP ahead of us start calling the enemy positions, and said they had a vehicle, then I see a jeep with a couple guys start coming down the road - so naturally I started trying to lob 'grenades' at it; only to find out later after watching where it was and what it was doing, that it was ours...
Sorry Gunny, I was the idiot in the beginning at Ladder Camp lobbing away at you..
I hope there is a third Grid 18 in the future to wrap this into a series,it has a certain draw to it that I find appealing personally.

Pictures should come before videos. Plus I want a new avatar if you have any pics of me. I know you stood infront of me plenty of times taking pictures of me so I couldn't shoot.

I need a picture for my profile and he was standing in front of me a lot near the end so im eager to see that crap. HURRY!

I need one to, he stood infront of me once that I know of.

It was less about cleverness and more that 20 people had just wandered in from respawn, and needed somewhere to go that wasn't getting mowed down by you guys.

Somebody did foam grenade your vehicle first though.

Re the vehicle rules.

Postby DJ » Sun Aug 16, 2009 5:32 pm

I am totally good with the suggested vehicles rules. The APC that we ginned up was truly impervious to BB fire. Other than a couple of riccochets, I was never hit the entire game. One of ogrejager's friends ( Christian I think) decided to ride along and play gunner for a time. He rode on top and was getting creamed, but was still "impervious" . A total bonus in my opinion. I was not expecting that. I was expecting grenade attacks and planned for them with a closing top hatch that opened up into a shield with gun ports. Becasue I had spent the time to build the thing , I guess I was a little miffed that the totally exposed people on the technicals were getting a free pass. Make the vehicles rules like suggested. If a person is exposed, they can be shot, and stick with the rocket rules for disable. By the way it was so noisy inside (engine noise) that I was hit several times by nerf rockets and had no clue. An admin and one very pissed off player told me I was hit......I took their word for it and went to respan/refit. I was glad for it......it was hotter than hades inside that thing
