Thanks everybody for making CQC7 a very fun success! I'm tired and sore from running around that whole building for 3 solid days. We put in about 10 hours on Friday setting up. We had high hopes for the acting, the set building, and the scenarios. Everything was up to our expectations. That's not to say we didn't want to do more, we did, and we will next time.
I'd like to congratulate SOTA/Mithril for taking 1st place, you guys seemed to have your movement and your communication down perfectly. You worked well as a team, scratch that, you worked well together even as a compilation of 2 different teams. Anyway, 1st place couldn't have gone to a nicer group of guys. When we have CQC8, I hope to see you guys there as a top contender. If you have too many for a stack, maybe we'll even see a SOTA and a Mithril team compete against each other.
And 5RAC was just 3 points behind at 2nd place. I would have liked to see you guys claim first, I can definitely see why it was so close because you guys did an exceptional job. BSG - Like I said, you were definitely the most thorough out of all the teams. Everyone who came out of that place was identified and tagged. The actors may have been a little bit scared of your tactics during the event, but I'm sure at the same time they were thinking you guys really had your shit together.
The actors; you guys and gals went above and beyond the call of duty with your roles. We don't typically have the budget money to spend on costumes, but still a lot of actors voluntarily buy costumes from Value Village or GoodWill all on their own - and out of their own pocket! They also come up with a lot of really cool dialog completely on the fly. You guys made these scenarios very believable and realistic, without your help we couldn't have done it. I would personally vouch for any of you guys for acting in any other event.
The admins: To my team, without the help of the team as a whole, even many of the guys who couldn't be there - this wouldn't be possible. Ryan had a lion's share of all of the planning in this competition, from concepting and designing the idea of the flash on our website to building and designing sets at the location. Every time I saw Josh Beran, he'd ask me what needs to get done, and if I had anything he would go do it. In costume as FBI agents, the admins and Scene Commander Belcher delivered some of the coolest briefings we've had. Even still - I think there's room for improvement there given the feedback about debrief and we will work on that next time.
PDX-CAGE: We couldn't have had a cooler facility for planning a multiple scenario CQC competition than PDX-CAGE. Al and Rod are really awesome guys and they went over the top in supporting us for everything we needed for our scenarios. They basically let us take that place over for the weekend, and I hope that as a result there are a lot of new teams interested in checking the place out for future use. They have shown that they are willing to tap into the community and ask what we want for a place to play Airsoft indoors. Check out
their website for more info about them. Our own moderator, Nic Redfield, has started as their full-time manager and many other familiar faces from around here will be working there as game admins to ensure everybody has a fun time out at CAGE. Thanks again guys!
The media production: We've had the best coverage we've ever had at CQC7; with 7 stationary cameras mounted in the building, 3 hand-helds and a helmet camera we were able to get multiple angles of coverage on all teams in every scenario. And I believe this is actually the first time we've had cameras rolling on EVERY TEAM in EVERY SCENARIO in a simultaneous scenario CQC competition. I'd like to thank Tim Planagan and Aaron Gotthardt for putting so much hard working into troubleshooting those seriously finicky security cameras. We spent many hours on Friday getting those ready. Thanks Allen from PSC for coming out; you made it possible to for us to have enough cameras during the 3 team block in the afternoon on Sunday. Who's interested in having a custum DVD with only your team's coverage, all three scenarios, everything we got? We'd like to focus our emphasis on teams this time, seeing as it seems like that's what folks want. Happy to hear your feedback.
Placement was as follows:
1st: SOTA/Mithril Alliance
2nd: No 5 Royal Air Commandos (5RAC)
3rd: Black Sierra Group (BSG)
4th: Pacific Security Contractors (PSC)
5th: Team America (eff yeah!)
6th: Desest Rats Airsoft Team (DRAT)
7th: East Side Rangers (ERA)
8th: Terra First
We'll have scoring sheets available soon, Ryan has them and we'll probably just scan them in and turn them into PDFs for you guys. Our criteria is very simple, as you've already seen from the handbook.
Other awards won:
Biggest Gear Whore: Went to Mono for having a Pedo-Bear tac shield. He'll receive a CQC7 plaque for his valiant gear-whoring efforts.
Epic Fail Award: Goes to the Terra First, because Mark in the club scenario knifed them all to death. sorry guys, tough break! You'll get a CQC7 plaque too.
Best Actor: Was Patrick Campaign, the hostage taker / interrogator on the Diane Young rescue scenario. Ryan wrote up this part for an ex-military mercenary type who had to be ripped up; 3 days later I get an email from a body-builder who wanted to act at CQC7.
Since I went and forgot the plaques, I'll send those out to you guys, I'll be in touch for a mailing address or arrange to meet up with you guys to hand them over. I just want to say thanks again to Wade Moss from Spokane Airsoft for building some cool awards and trophies for us.
Thanks again everybody, I am sure I missed some acknowledgments. I'm still caught up in the event afterglow. You know how it is
