But real Ak's are dirty and for poor people. The Tokyo Marui AK-47 is a gentleman's piece, and not to be confused.

Lets think about economy of scale here.....

17,000,000 Lee Enfields produced from 1907 to now. Think that has something to do with the cost?

If I could sell seventeen million airsoft clone rifles, I'd be able to bring the price down to under that of a real one. Hell, if I could sell seventeen million of them, I'd be producing them.

I just imagined a British man in a Victorian era suit with a top hat, a monocle, and an AK-47 saying that line.
"You are superior in only one respect!"
"What is that?"
"You are better at dying!"

There is currently far more supply than demand for a real-steel Enfields. They are like Mosin-Nagants... great rifles but essentially the plankton of the surplus firearms world.

There is more demand than supply for an airsoft Enfield. Some people are willing to pay the price.

If I judged what activities I do by amortized cost per minute to participate in I'd probably stay home and play video games. I don't particularly like video games, though. I like running around in the woods and I'd rather do that trying to shoot a BB accurately than what is essentially pointing an expensive stick and saying "BANG!" really loud. Of course, I also approach this from a game perspective rather than a reenactment. I work very hard at my stressful job and get paid a decent amount of money so I can fund my hobbies. What it costs isn't too big of a deal for me if its what I want to do.

Back on topic.... looks like in a couple of weeks I'll have my Battle Dress pants and jacket and a repro para helmet. Hopefully I can find some decent Enfield parts and the small packat the gun show this weekend !

But what gun should I use when I am dressing up as said gentleman?

The point is... an airsoft enfield isn't much more complicated than any other bolt action right, it's just put into a wooden stock. Now how does that justify the cost? I know for sure it doesn't cost anything near that to make it.

So make an accurate and quality made airsoft reproduction of an Enfield and I will give you $500 cash...

Its worth it to me because I do not have the skills to do so.
Time, knowledge and skill is worth a lot of money.

i guess some people just value their time more than others.
Personally if I made one I'd charge little over what it cost me to make it. But i don't give a shazaam.

Update... got a helmet!

Picked up a repro Airborne helmet from John Boy, delivered via Alex. I gave him my hat size of 7 3/4, but when I got the helmet it was uncomfortably tight. Apparently I've had my hat size wrong the whole time. Poked around a bit, broke out the Xacto knife, trimmed away some of the larger bits of padding, adjusted the suspension and now its a snug fit without any part of the sides or screws pokin' me in the headbone. It'll fit just right when I get off my lazy a$$ and go get a haircut.

The Paras and Glider troops typically used helmet nets and bits of burlap to camo their helmets. Any imperfections with the helmet can be hidden with this. I need to dig around for some netting. From period pics there seems to be a wide variety of netting used but I have a good idea of what I want. I will post pics when its done.

I also picked up a mess tin... so I can eat authentically... only not too authentically, because the idea of milk and sugar in my tea makes me want to hurl.

Battle dress, beret w/ badge and boots and I have an impression 'good enough for airsoft'. :D
