So lets get down to it. I've always been fascinated with the German Army, "All Quiet on the Western Front" is my favorite book, I'm the Grandson of a Wermacht Machine gunner, and the cousin of a formerly serving West Kriegsmarine U-Boat crew member.
I feel obligated to show my heritage through airsoft. Pure-blood Americans dress up as SEALS and Marines, British dress up as SAS, so I want to be a German. I'm open to any time period WW1-Present day, as long as the type of soldier I portray is not SS or Gestapo. Anyways, WW2 and before are out of the question, because AEG's of weapons from the time period are few and far between.
Now for the questions:
1. I really want to wear Stahlhelm. I know the Stahlhelm was worn during WW1 and WW2, but was it used post-WW2 in the 50's and 60's?
2. What kind of camo should I be wearing? I know the Heer uses Flecktarn today, but what was used during the middle twentieth century?
3. A harder question, as I bet few of you have warn these: Are Jackboots comfortable?

Does the lack of laces make them slide on you? If Germany's been using them this long, they'd have to work, wouldn't they? Also, until which point were they phased out?
4. Finally, der gewehr, oder the rifle . Yes, I posted in the forums a while back looking for an AK, but I still can't decide what I want to use. I'm going to play Woodland at least 90% of the time, and unlike the Pacific Redwood forests, Maryland is dense and scrubby, so a long rifle is ill-advised (G3A3 I'm looking at you). I've been thinking MP5, G3A4, and Steyr AUG (Austrian yes, but used by Germany). G36 is out of the question. I hate it. I'm one for a lot of metal on a gun, and the G36 doesn't satisfy me. Not to mention it's too popular.
I'm striving to be unique, so I don't know if the MP5 would be worth it. Do a lot of people use the MP5? Would it even work in woodland? Or is it CQB only? I really want to stand out on the battlefield, I don't want to be a tacticool spec-ops guy with an M4. So if you have and weapons suggestions, feel free to enlighten me. My AEG budget is $400.
Wow, thank you for putting up with me for all that tyext. I tried to break it up so it wouldn't be such an eyesore. I really need the advice of a decorated airsoft community such as yourselves to help me out. I thank you in advance for your contributions.
