THX Bill
actually I was just having a similar thought to what you were saying. But I greatly appreciate all the help given.

NEW FPS RULES:
FPS limit is now going to be set at 400FPS for AEG's
a Chrono will be on the field. With the FPS being set at 400, all players will use disgretion on the engagement distance. SAFETY FIRST! So if you have an higher FPS on your AEG, do not engage in shorter distances, that is what sidearms are for.

BOLT WEAPONS:
THE FPS limit has been lifted on on Bolt action Sniper Rifles. But the 2 Snipers per team rule still applies.
*IMPORTANT NOTE FOR SNIPERS*
Anyone wishing to take on a Sniper role must contact me in advance. You will PM me with a history of your Sniper history, and courses you have taken in Sniper training. I also want to know what type of weapon you are using and all upgrades made to it. Also I want to have a couple of references of other players that have seen you on the field in action as a Sniper.
I have began to notice so many players running with a Bolt Action weapon trying to be a Sniper and have not concept of what that means.
A Sniper is the defination of Stealth. They move quietly and unseen
A Sniper picks their targets, and determines whether they live or DIE.
A Sniper Finds the best location and can wait all day if need be.
A Sniper is GOD with rifle.
And to be just honest, and can not see anyone who is 15 understanding this. So If you want to be a Sniper in this game I must be contacted ASAP via PM and have what I asked for. Only the most experianced, safest players will be chosen.
Under 18 Need not apply. Its nothing personal but I just can't see you having enough experiance or maturity to play this role. And I don't want to hear any crying like, "well I have been playing airsoft for 3 or 5 years. I know what I am doing"

And just for anyones information who wants it, and I know there will be complaints about this.
Yes I do have 2 Snipers on my team. Yes they both carry VSR Bolt Weapons. Yes the VSR's are upgraded.
AND YES THEY WILL GO THROUGH THE SAME STRENOUS SCREENING AS EVERYONE ELSE. Actually I may be harder on them because they are on my team. And just not another random Player.

Or it'll turn people off, because they have to jump through hoops to go to a game.

The only people who would have to 'jump through hoops' as you put it, would be someone who wants to be a sniper at the game. and if they dont take it seriously enough to write a little PM and give some names. then they dont take the role of a sniper seriously enough to be on the field during the game.

Why the special restrictions for one particular position? If everyone wants to be a sniper, the good ones will separate themselves from the bad ones with the skillsets they possess. Bad ones can choose to learn to be better, or pick a different role.

The risk of the higher fps aeg's
Having a .39 bb flying at you at 450+fps is no walk in the park when you get hit. Especially if the sniper doesnt have the willpower and tact to NOT hit you at 40 feet like someone with an aeg would. Snipers need to have that discipline because they have the potential to cause greater injury at the same distances as an AEG player.
At least...thats my educated guess.

Ok, those are great reasons for having restrictions, but read what the description of the sniper is in tommyboy's eyes:

I have began to notice so many players running with a Bolt Action weapon trying to be a Sniper and have not concept of what that means.
A Sniper is the defination of Stealth. They move quietly and unseen
A Sniper picks their targets, and determines whether they live or DIE.

Nowhere in here is any regard of safety mentioned. This seems to reflect that those without the "correct" mentality cannot be a sniper in this game, and that safety regulations aren't taken into consideration when deciding who gets to play how they want and who doesn't.

I'm not suggesting that tommyboy has no regard for sniper safe-distance shooting, but rather, that he chose to ignore those player-enforced regulations when making other people's decisions for them; which *I* believe he should have a limited ability to do.

But then I'm new, and not a sniper to begin with, so what do I know...

edit: I will add in, however, that this does show that tommyboy has a deep concern for the game he is hosting, and I salute him for that. I hope that me posting my opinion hasn't turned anyone away from this OP or pissed off tommyboy at all. Wasn't my intention.

There is a greater potencial for player injury with 550+ FPS "sniping" platforms. The reason he is screening them is simple: safety.

If you dont have the resume, dont ask.

Well in the previous thread I mentioned safety. I have safety at a highest regard, this goes on all accounts not just in the realm of a sniper.
You will forgive me for failing to mention it in this thread since I wrote in at what... about 0330-0400 this morning, with one hand feeding a newborn baby.
So the main reasons to restrict the use of snipers on the field is to...
keep the inexperianced 'unsafe' players off the field with the high powered rifles. If its hard enough to get the players to call hits how the hell am I going to see to it that all the proper safety actions are taken by the snipers unless I restrict the use
To keep the number of snipers to a minimum on the field. I am looking for a more Force on Force game. That would mean Infantry units facing off against each other. And in aiming for that type of game I dont want 1/4 of the players on the field as snipers. I am one of the players out there who see this as a military simulation game. cant do that with a bunch of snipers running around out there.

That makes more sense. The 500-word essay on the ethics of a sniper in PM format does not. (I am aware of the exaggeration).

On the other hand I don't know exactly how I would keep the number of snipers to a minimum if I were hosting this event.

/shrug

I'll see you guys there :)

I hope you're all done with the sniper thing. It's Tommyboy's game, and he sets the rules! Show up, play, have fun.
