I think everybody is just sounding off here because they want others to know they're going to the event. For any of you who are not going OPfor, I apologize in advance for killing you.

Capt DOA - you are right, they DO have it setup nicely. If it's anything like Gallant Saber 1 or 2, it'll be a blast.

Capt DOA wrote:PS: Everyone thats going, bring a radio with a headset. The experienced players will tell you this. Communication & training/practice is like having forks & knives with dinner. Yeah, you can eat with your hands and be a caveman, but its a whole lot cleaner with the right gear. Honestly, there is no reason you should not have a radio w/headset. There is nothing worse than being on a Island in a big OP without a radio, without knowing where the action is and where to move sucks. All you see is people running this way and that way and no one knows where there are going...

I agree and disagree. It's definitely useful to have a guy or two on your squad (particularly the squad leader) with radios, for those reasons. Not every last person needs to have a radio though. The more people you have on the frequency for your force, the higher the chance someone starts hotmiking and clogging up the channel. (Which at particularly large OPs, is practically a given anyway, in my experience.)

If you're gonna have a whole squad kitted out with radios, I actually prefer to have a couple guys on the frequency for the force / admin, and the rest on a frequency for the squad itself. Cuts down on chatter on the force frequency that doesn't need to be there. Also helps you hook back up with your squad if you're returning from a respawn or what have you.

I'm not sure everyone screaming at the tops of their lungs is worst than radio chatter.;) I haven't played with a group that spends a lot of time talking on the radio - except to talk about field movements, or enemy positions. I'm collecting headsets for all my radios. I'm tired of uncoordinated scatter. I do wish Motorola would put out a radio that lets you double monitor two stations (picture in picture), so you can have a team channel and keep an ear on the admin channel.

Looking forward to the game...a lot!

I almost always turn my radio off at major OPs, because it gets too annoying to bear. But then you have those other people who scream "QUIT HOT-MICING!!!" as if that really helps, they're really annoying too... but unfortunately you cannot turn them off.

The Devil Dawgs are all getting/got radios, not because we like to tie up freqs...........but because we are using Garmin Rhino 120, that bounces your coords to your team mates by simply hitting the transmit button!

Just a quick squeeze and everyone's Rhino is updated with your position.

Iam sure everyone has had to find their squad after hitting the regen station..........etc.

But Iam in agreement, everyone in the squad should have a visual on the guy in front and behind them, and hand signals should be used. And its up to the SL to then relay sitrep's, or recieve orders from/to Command.

Everyone can bring a radio.

If you a) don't know how to speak on one or b) aren't a platoon/squad leader STAY THE shazaam OFF OF THE NET.

Its good to see a couple of views on this issue. Bubba, you made some good points as to why everyone needs a mic or not.
Radio Training is just like cqc training or battle formation training. (Uhh, this might be a good idea for a class) Even if you don't say a word, you need a radio, to listen where to move, if the squad leader gets hit, and someone else chims in" squad leader of brave one is hit," this will let everyone know who is next in line in giving orders for troop movement to step up.
Mmmm, i guess i will leave this alone for now as this is just my opinion to help a few new to intermid players from getting lost in the field of play once they are hit, thats where the madness begins. None the less, this should be fun :)

Yeah, if everyone was disciplined with radios, everyone having radios would be fantastic.

If only that were the case... :)

At our Ops there are Operations Orders and Fragmentary Orders which will desginate Command and Signal. Typically there is a primary and alt freq assigned to each manuver element to at least the platoon level. There will be an overall admin channel, an emergency channel (real world), and a command channel and an OPFOR/Role Player channel. This does not leave too many channels for "open" use. Squad channels will be left to the discression of the Platoon Leader. In other words, if the Platoon leader feels that it is a good idea for each squad to have a channel they will be assigned. On the other hand, if the Platoon leader feels that there is no need for a channel desgination or doesn't want to juggle 3 or 4 radios - there may be no assigned channels for the operation.

There will be a range of "open" channels that are not assigned. These channels will be open to be used by anyone but with a limited amount of channels, there is a good chance of overlap and leaking of information. These open channels can scanned and jammed. Dead players may not use/scan or jam the radio. Dead players must turn their radios off until they are back in play. Definitions on jamming and scanning, the open freqs and radio procedure will be covered in the player pack which will be out in the next few weeks. Many questions will be answered.
