What holds you back from doing WWII Airsoft?

I'm planning to make either ROA, RONA or Cossack SS Division load-out in the nearest future, so I'm completely for WW2 airsoft.

To be honest, how many WWII events are in Washington/Oregon anyway? I know of Jump to Destiny, as well as some Battle of the Bulge stuff Battlesim does (or did), but other than that, it seems you're dropping $600-800 on a kit you only use twice a year.

Manicotti Events hopes to put on 6 WWII Games per year. Obviously, the more participation we receive from players, the more we can do. Right now, we have a plan for 4 Western Front (American/British, against Germans) events, and 2 Russian Front events. If we had players, and a few props, we'd announce a game right now. There will be equipment restrictions, and uniform restrictions for our events (for example: no 'captured weapons' allowed. Americans may not wear camouflage. Limited 'snipers').

If there was enough interest in a group putting together a Japanese impression, I do have a Pacific theater event written.

As an event promoter, its hard to put on an event without knowing you'll have players. And WWII runs into this vicious circle. Event promoters cant put on an event without players. And players wont get the gear if there are not events. We're trying to jump-start the process by putting on an event, and praying that people will put out the money to get a bare minimum of gear, and over time improve themselves.

If I got about a months notice (and once I've actually got money) I would be willing to shell out the money for a bare-minimum Russian or Japanese impression, just the biggest issue is a weapon. ARES has a PPSh (but I can't/won't spend 400 bucks on it) and the AGM version has not yet appeared.

I wore my Pacific theater uniform to an airsoft game on Sunday and received nothing but oohs, aahs and compliments. Seems people are slowly getting more and more interested in WWII airsoft around these parts. About time.

I have all the necessary equipment for the WWII Army Airborne Kit and I just purchased a new uniform yesterday so I can perform in the new "Pathfinders" movie being filmed in Portland.

I've always done WWII, I can't stand modern stuff. I personally don't mind showing up in my Axis kit, playing with modern guys (as they think it's the coolest thing they've seen since they saw BoB or SPR), but I would really enjoy having a WWII airsoft organization close by that did routine events! Then we WWII impressionists would have a place to call home, and hopefully gain more members.

The politics and prices of the kits seem to be what scares people off. That's why you work them in a little bit at a time. Guns are becoming more affordable, and if you look at modern gear to reproduction gear, it's relatively in the same price range.

I started off with a partisan impression, frankly because it's affordable (but do it right!) and really allows you to see other impressions. Then I found a unit that fought in several campaigns and fronts (it was the 12th SS for me) and slowly aquire the uniform and gear.

So it really comes down to whether your gunna sit around and contemplate doing it, or just do it! I think what pulls most players away is they don't have many choices after picking a unit, because they usually had set items they carried. But others enjoy the historical depth and reference in it.

Yes I'm 15. (I am one of the top ranking public speakers and debaters in the state of Texas though, so I project my beliefs and policies the appropriate way )

When it comes to politics, it seems to show up mainly in portraying a German unit (whether it be Werhmact or SS) and Soviet uniforms. Nobody wants to play a German because of the swastika (which is misinterpreted) and the atrocities (by CERTAIN) groups. All Werhmact units and most SS units were fighting units, they weren't nazi supporters, they were soldiers of their homeland. The units that make people think extermination of Jews comes from the units ran and instituted with actual Nazi party members. So don't portray those units. Same with a soviet, just because your a impressionist of the Red Army, does not make you a commie! It just comes down to small minded outsiders name calling because of what side your on. Sorry, we can't all be American impressionists or they're would be no war to fight.
The best way to do it, is pick a nationality and unit you like, learn about them, gather the gear they used, and have a good time! That's really all that matters! If you portray an American to strictly kill actual nazis, your in the wrong hobby buddy, etc.

True, but you've also have to notice that everyone who wore a swastika on a uniform doesn't make them a Nazi. Escpecially in 1944 to the end of the war, most of the forces were thrown into service by force. So yes the swastika as used by national socialists does not stand for pretty things to say the least. But let us not blame the airsoft impressionists for what happened in WWII. I've seen this countless times at many different fields..

I'm all for proper uniforming for stuff like this If the germans ran out with a bunch of smiley faces (or whatever) in place of swastikas and unit designations, it would really detract from the game IMO.

I won't ever do an Axis impression. Not for me.

Have fun explaining why you're playing a Nazi stormtrooper to the average person. I'd rather avoid that.
