Just for once

Postby Nark » Fri May 03, 2013 10:03 am

Just an idea, I want a game that has OPFOR players in a camo that looks similar to the other side, so Tan team has a team wearing a specified green camo, like AOR2, and green team with a team in Desert Flecktarn. However no one on the green team can wear whatever that camo is.

Give us a reason to have situational awareness even around our own guys. Don't even give me the "It's hacking" or "But then I won't be able to tell who my team members are".

I think that would work and add a little extra twist to a game.

It would have to be a little more though than just camo or people would phony pony too much though, have the squad whose wearing the opposing teams camo also all wearing a certain color gear. Like the green opfor wearing desert flecktarn wearing green plate carriers. That way you would still have to be on your toes but its not completely impossible to tell until they start firing rounds at you.

I like the idea, I just think people would moan and groan unless there was a little more to it.

Would be pointless, people dont look at who they are shooting anyway. They see movement and they fire. I can't tell how many times I have been TKed wearing blue jeans by my own team. Once people can learn trigger discipline and how to ID targets nothing will change

I was thinking about something like this.
A typical green V tan but a third non aligned team that has no camo requirement and is encouraged to wear the patterns of the other teams.

That might work better than a sub set team with a different primary color. More chaos to be had.

There would be players who just wouldn't understand, though, and you'd get a bunch of complaints from them about the confusion. No one actually takes the time to read game threads. Not saying it doesn't sound like a hoot, but some people just wouldn't get it.

A third team led by a game admin could be handy, though. If one side is showing a distinct advantage during the game, you can tell the third team to attack the team that's in the lead and balance the game back out, and vice versa. That's what I did with the Super Mutants at Fallout just to keep the field shaken up and keep gameplay from stagnating.

I'd rather see guys in durka robes with short AKs hidden under their clothes.

That would be sexy :D

Sounds like a much better idea than mine :P I would like to see this maybe at a more "mature" game.

I once wore blue faded jeans and a heather gray sweatshirt and woodland chest rig, topped off with a Burgerville hat. TK'd three times in a row in a no-camo vs. camo game.

I think this is a good idea for higher-level games, but not the games with non-serious players.

My favorite was Marpat vs. Multicam. Of course, I was the CO for Multicam of that game...

I figured this would only work as part of a longer series of games. Mostly unfolding over the span of a year.
It would have to include a "strategic" meta game during down time, RP events, and a large dedicated field.

This.

I've tried to allow units to copy the other team's camo for the purposes of spying or getting through enemy lines, a bunch of people bitched and moaned about it.

Exactly, It would be different if the actual team members had say a very obvious unit patch that the other team couldn't copy. Then you still have some way of identifying the "spies". However people are to lazy they just want to fling bbs and each other.

I thought I posted something on here referring to the conflict in S Ossetia in 2008 and how both sides used the same camo(M81 Woodland and similar)and just tied white fabric around one arm. Was that deleted?

faggots.

Just host a game if you have an idea. If it works, the market decides.

The free market is not a god. It will not christen an idea as either good or bad, just profitable.

A game like this needs a large amount of structure. It can not be supported by a weekend game, it would require a dedicated team of game masters, administrators, and large player base. You need larpers not airsofters looking for trigger time.

The considerations needed for a this far out weigh the amount that the even most "hardcore" are willing to put into it. The time requirements for proper familiarization (both chain of command and allies) would require dedicated field days. Setting comprehension and acting appropriately to that setting would require time dedicated to that matter as well. Then an "OP" maybe run, most likely after some smaller games.

I'm pretty sure most airsofters aren't willing to spend two to four days a month on nothing more than pure role playing. A couple of Saturdays running large scale drills, and spending the other Saturdays out skirmishing. Followed by longer more structured weekend games.

Honestly I don't think most of AP is really willing to spend that much time. If it coalesced it would be quite an epic event.
