ICS QD Suppressor Orange Tip

Postby Orwell » Sat Oct 20, 2012 12:20 am

So it turns out that if you get an ICS QD suppressor stateside, it comes with a spectacularly annoying orange tip (pictures to follow). I'm looking for a way to remove it; it seems fairly impossible to remove, but I'm guessing that a little boiling water may work on that. However, before I dived right in I thought I'd look around the web. I've got zip from google, zip from the search bar, and I'm looking for help. Anyone have any idea if there's a simple way to separate the tip from the body? If I must paint it, I'd like to paint it on its own.

Thanks in advance!

Do you want to keep the trademarks?

Or do you mind painting it?

Acetone might work, but i'd test it on the underside first just to make sure it won't wear off the black.

I like the trademarks, especially given the individual serial number, but I could live without. As for testing, I can't seem to get the endcap off. I think they may have glued it on. *facepalm* Someone needs to tell these guys that this isn't a legal requirement for suppressors.

I'm open to painting it.

Both of my US bought-Madbull suppressors were sealed shut. I'm assuming ICS did the same, or whatever distributor did. If you have some lacquer thinner lying around, try that on the orange.

Acetone would soften it but would take for ever and likely evaporate before it removed all plastic. From what I can see in the image it looks like the plastic is molded flush with the metal so removing it would likely expose a ridge at the end. I would mask off the rest of the suppressor and wipe down the orange tip with acetone ((cleans the plastic of any oil or dirt and makes it more receptive to paint) and then grab a can of flat black or bumper paint from a local parts house. Bumper paint is intended for flexible plastic and more resilient to scratching. Just paint the tip and your golden.
When in doubt, empty the mag.

Try MEK, nice and powerful. BTW, you installed a flip-up sight on a flip-up sight?
I do hope that after all this discreditable shuffling we may be taken into action. It has a wonderful way of reconciling a man with himself: and with everybody else, sometimes. - 1st Lt. James Dillon

Yessir. The lower sight has poor elevation adjustment and doesn't keep its zero, so I mounted my spare MBUS and everything was peachy-keen (save being ugly as Hell).

Thanks for the advice, all. Will report back with progress.

Alright, guys. I'll edit this post with pictures soon. I ended up just working most of it off with a flathead screwdriver. I'll go at the remaining flecks with acetone before the game this weekend, time permitting.
