Airsoft Market Research

Postby Chad » Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:21 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen,

My name is Chad and I have the intention to open up a new airsoft field in Washington. The reason for this new topic is to request information for an industry market analysis. On top of purchasing a market analysis from one of the many companies online; I would also like to get information straight from the mouth of the players. If you could answer the following questionnaire it would be greatly appreciated. All the following information will go towards the business plan of mentioned field as well as anyone in the future looking for viable marketing research. If you are able, thank you for your input.

• What county do you live in?
• How far do you travel to play airsoft?
• How often do you play per month?
• How many BB’s do you use during the spand of All Day Play(12 hours)?
• Do you purchase lunch from the fields you play at?
• If the field had an espresso/coffee bar would you purchase any beverages?
• What do you like/dislike about the current fields you play on? (Design/Layout, Services, Fees)
• What do you consider a fair price at a top quality field or event?
• If a field was designed and run specifically for airsoft, i.e. no paintballers, would you be willing to…
A.Travel Farther? How far?
B. Pay more?
C. Play more often?
• How often do you visit an actual business licensed airsoft field?
• How much monthly do you spend on airsoft?
• Are you apart of a team?
• Would you attend during special events, regular daily play or both?
• Are you interested in State/League competition play?
• Do you enjoy teaching new players?

I understand it is a decent amount of questions but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chad

What county do you live in?
Grants Pass, Oregon, United States.

How far do you travel to play airsoft?
Anywhere between 5 and 25 miles.

How often do you play per month?
I play every weekend rain or snow, so about 4/month.

How many BB’s do you use during the spand of All Day Play(12 hours)?
I am a SAW Gunner so anywhere between 500 and 4000.

Do you purchase lunch from the fields you play at?
No there is only one Airsoft field in the area and I prefer to play somewhere else when I can.

If the field had an espresso/coffee bar would you purchase any beverages?
As long as the price wasnt too high, so you know $1 or so for a soda, ect.

What do you like/dislike about the current fields you play on? (Design/Layout, Services, Fees)
I like the location. The field has potential, but it isnt being put to use the way it could.

What do you consider a fair price at a top quality field or event?
$5-10 for a day, $20-30 for an event. Although it would depend on the quality of the event as well as the field.

If a field was designed and run specifically for airsoft, i.e. no paintballers, would you be willing to…
A.Travel Farther? How far?
Not really, Maybe a little further but im not going to drive half way across the state just to play on a Airsoft dedicated Field for the day

B. Pay more?
Maybe a little more but not much. not while there is plenty of good BLM land to play on for free

C. Play more often?
Sure

How often do you visit an actual business licensed airsoft field?
Once every couple of months. We mostly do it just to recruit new members.

How much monthly do you spend on airsoft?
$15-30 depending on how much I have used my SAW

Are you apart of a team?
Yes I am one of the team leaders of Task Force 11 Delta

Would you attend during special events, regular daily play or both?
A field here in Grants Pass? I would play every day if I could hahaha. If you mean a field in Washington then I would only be able to attend Special Events.

Are you interested in State/League competition play?
Yes very much so.

Do you enjoy teaching new players?
Yes, thats why im a team leader haha.

Hope this helped. If it didn't feel free to ignore me

Lack of buildings, and I like open areas (i.e the orchard in Sniperzden)
• What do you consider a fair price at a top quality field or event?

Thank you! I very much appreciate any and all info. Currently I am running this research on 3 different Airsoft forums and that will probley increase to 8 forums by Monday. Also I will extend it to L.E. officials.

I understand people have said they were going to open a field before or had the intentions to but they never came through. I am being realistic and it is not my intent to get hopes up just to shoot them down. I urge you to take the brief census to assist in this endeavour. Thank you again for all your help.

Transition: For my own privacy reasons and the amount of flood in my email from the networking we are trying to do already is staggering. If I can keep it on the forums, not only does that give myself the market research, but also we can have investors or banks see for themselves what the players/people want or would do by visiting the forums. It will also allow for a better separation of demographics. Each site obviously has different traits each player likes that why they post on them. So by using the way these forums and sites are built and how many members are on each; along with how many members per forum respond will offer a better grasp of who are the serious ones.

Take for instance how many views and reply this thread has. I understand not many people like doing surveys or talk to the U.S. census when they call. The ones who do respond to these threads will provide myself with a more accurate number and statistics for the outlook and research portion of our business plan.

Thanks,
Chad

What county do you live in? Skagit County, Washington
• How far do you travel to play airsoft? 30 miles

• How many BB’s do you use during the spand of All Day Play(12 hours)? 2000 or so
• Do you purchase lunch from the fields you play at? no, i bring my own, but i might get something to drink
• If the field had an espresso/coffee bar would you purchase any beverages? not coffee, but maybe soda/water

• What do you consider a fair price at a top quality field or event? 15-35 dollars
• If a field was designed and run specifically for airsoft, i.e. no paintballers, would you be willing to…
A.Travel Farther? How far? if its a very large field, i would travel 50 miles, but if its just a small paintball arena type thing, i wouldnt even go.
B. Pay more? maybe
C. Play more often? no
• How often do you visit an actual business licensed airsoft field? never
• How much monthly do you spend on airsoft? lately about 150 bucks, but thats because im starting uo again. Normally about 60 bucks

• Would you attend during special events, regular daily play or both? yes
• Are you interested in State/League competition play? no
• Do you enjoy teaching new players? not really, not much to learn about playing. the strategy is learning what to buy

Chad wrote: • What county do you live in?
Washington County OR

• How far do you travel to play airsoft?
Usually about an hour tops, but I'll go farther for good games

• How often do you play per month?
1-2 times per month typically, sometimes more, sometimes less.

• How many BB’s do you use during the spand of All Day Play(12 hours)?
<1000

• Do you purchase lunch from the fields you play at?
Typically

• If the field had an espresso/coffee bar would you purchase any beverages?
I bring my own coffee

• What do you like/dislike about the current fields you play on? (Design/Layout, Services, Fees)
Bad=repetition, not enough fields left, too little variety at the ones that do. Good=R&R is a model of what a good field should be, well proportioned, well staffed, and with amenities. Clean, flushing toilets and a hot shower during a multi-day event makes for happy campers.

• What do you consider a fair price at a top quality field or event?
I wouldn't pay more than about $20 for a single day's worth of flip the PVC pipe/capture the maguffin. Longer, larger, and better organized and staged events would be worth more money to me.

• If a field was designed and run specifically for airsoft, i.e. no paintballers, would you be willing to…
A.Travel Farther? How far?
Depends a lot upon the event itself. I don't mind it being a dual use field if the field is good, but I don't want there be a paintball event and an airsoft event taking place at the same time. Suffice it to say, fields are expensive, and paintballers help pay the bills.
B. Pay more?
See above
C. Play more often?
No

• How often do you visit an actual business licensed airsoft field?
Never

• How much monthly do you spend on airsoft?
Too much

• Are you apart of a team?
ISAF-C

• Would you attend during special events, regular daily play or both?
Both. Special events should be well sorted and executed, however.

• Are you interested in State/League competition play?
Not right now

• Do you enjoy teaching new players?
I lack experience to teach, but I enjoy being taught.

Postby SA12 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 8:13 pm

I won't be that much of help due to the fact that I've just recently moved here, though hopefully any bit of information will help you.

What county do you live in?
Clackamas, OR

How far do you travel to play airsoft?
I've just recently moved here and haven't had a chance to play just yet, though I'd be willing to drive 100+ miles as long as the field is good enough.

How often do you play per month?
Once I get a little more settled, I'll be playing 2-3 times a month.

How many BB’s do you use during the spand of All Day Play(12 hours)?
I've yet to play an all day game and our longest games on Maui were about 6 hours and I'd only use probably 700bbs.

Do you purchase lunch from the fields you play at?
If the food is good, I"ll gladly buy it.

If the field had an espresso/coffee bar would you purchase any beverages?
I'd purchase sports drinks like Gatoraid, though I wouldn't purchase any type of Coffee. Especially since Airsoft can be a strenuous activity and Coffee dehydrates you.

What do you like/dislike about the current fields you play on? (Design/Layout, Services, Fees)
The fields we had on Maui had ridiculous wait times between game types. At times a 6 hour game day would only have 4 games and not because the games were that long, but because they had 30-60 minute wait times between each game.

What do you consider a fair price at a top quality field or event?
It depends on the field type and quality, if it were something of top tier like we see in California for example, then I'd gladly spend $20+. Though if it's more of a simple field then I'd only consider $5-10 to be a fair price.

If a field was designed and run specifically for airsoft, i.e. no paintballers, would you be willing to…
A.Travel Farther? How far?

It all depends on the quality of the field.

B. Pay more?
Again this depends on the quality

C. Play more often?
And again the same answer

How often do you visit an actual business licensed airsoft field?
Where are they here? I've yet to play unfortunately.

How much monthly do you spend on airsoft?
I used to spend anywhere from $200-300 a month on parts and accessories, though now that's gone down to $50 or less.

Are you apart of a team?
No I'm not

Would you attend during special events, regular daily play or both?
Both

Are you interested in State/League competition play?
Not that much, though it'd be interesting.

Do you enjoy teaching new players?
Yes I do

• What country do you live in?
AMERICA
• What county do you live in?
Clark County
• How far do you travel to play airsoft?
As far as needed. Willing to travel roughly 1 hour (one way) per day of play.
• How often do you play per month?
1-3 times over the summer, 1 or 2 during school.
• How many BB’s do you use during the span of All Day Play(12 hours)?
Anywhere from 200 to 2000 depending on my platform of choice. MIDCAPS ALL THE WAY, BABY!
• Do you purchase lunch from the fields you play at?
Nope.
• If the field had an espresso/coffee bar would you purchase any beverages?
Nope. Free bottled water would be nice. Put names on the bottles and charge those rude enough to leave trash.
• What do you like/dislike about the current fields you play on? (Design/Layout, Services, Fees)
Forest=too dense. FPS limits=too high. Magazine rules=nonexistent at most OPs. Teamkilling noobs; give the people armbands or enforce STRICT uniform requirements.
• What do you consider a fair price at a top quality field or event?
$15 a day is about where I top out. I like Camp R&R's awesome low prices; I can pay $15 to play 2 days (5 games) and camp. Best deal for the best field as of right now.
• If a field was designed and run specifically for airsoft, i.e. no paintballers, would you be willing to…
A.Travel Farther? How far?
No, not really.
B. Pay more?
I guess I'd have to, but as long as it wasn't "party city" with inflatable bunkers... There's no point to. A little white on my gear doesn't bother me, I'm no moose.
C. Play more often?
Yeah, I'd make that as an excuse :)
• How often do you visit an actual business licensed airsoft field?
10+ times a year if you count CQB.
• How much monthly do you spend on airsoft?
Too much. I try and trade, mostly, but probably around $35-$75 depending on the month.
• Are you apart of a team?
Ha. No. I wish.
• Would you attend during special events, regular daily play or both?
Both.
• Are you interested in State/League competition play?
That exists? Meh. I'd have to check it out first.
• Do you enjoy teaching new players?
As long as they're not arrogant COD-inspired food blisters that never pay a penny for their own gear.
