SB798 is now back, and it's called SB1315

Postby icebullet » Mon Apr 16, 2012 5:32 pm

Okay, we've got an urgent message-

Once again, this legislation will severely limit play of airsoft, and it also effects retailers, such as ASGI and Evike, both service the whole country, would be forced to relocate, causing thousands of dollars of lost money, and many days lost, and layoffs everywhere.

SB 1315
SB 1315 is scheduled to come before the California State Senate Public Safety Committee April 17, 2012. Please call the list of State Senators below if you are a California voter. You may use the script below. Most of the time you will just leave a message. Senator Price's office may ask you for alternatives to this bill. One alternative is to work together with the industry to have requirements of the retailers selling these guns so airsoft specialty stores have an advantage over big box stores.

There's a point where this needs to stop, and we've clearly passed it

ya i get your point but the repercussions of that bill will effect the rest of the country. Like it was said Evike and Airsoft gi will have to relocate and also it will give an example to other states to make similar laws. I also think its worth saying that California probably has the highest population of air soft players in the country and if it passes there it is likely to pass in many other places.

Necro post with a point :)

So looks like this passed the California Governors office today and is law.

But.... Am I the only one who, 1. Doesn't really care, and 2. Think Californian's brought this on themselves?

I don't see how this is going to "shut down airsoft in California" like many places are claiming. And the dumbasses voted in the politicians who put this up, and passed it. So in a way, it's their own damn fault it's happening.

Also, this isn't a ban on airsoft, or anything. It's giving LA county cities the option to place stricter rules on replica weapons within their limits.

If I'm not mistaken, what I read about it said that it banned all replica firearms. Which means it also applies to BB/pellet guns, not just airsoft guns.

Yes, it is a new law that targets replica weapons and any bb device under 16mm in diameter.

that is more restrictive than state law regulating the
manufacture, sale, possession, or use of any BB device, toy gun,
replica of a firearm, or other device that is so substantially
similar in coloration and overall appearance to an existing firearm
as to lead a reasonable person to perceive that the device is a
firearm and that expels a projectile that is no more than 16
millimeters in diameter .

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/11-12/bil ... n_v98.html

But still. It doesn't do anything yet. Even when it goes into effect, all it does is say any city within LA County, or The county itself to enact stricter laws for the above bb devices and replica's. So, as the california store's claim that this law has killed airsoft, it hasn't. And as they claim that 90% of all airsoft is purchased from LA county, it isn't, there are plenty of other places to get airsoft shipped to, and bought from.

It doesn't say anything that i can find about transporting through their ports out of the county. I would imagine that federal law would take over for the ports and interstate shipping. But i may be wrong on that.

And that's where you go wrong, because they just completely ignored what the bill actually says. Which, obviously, the bill's true motives have been mentioned several times before throughout this thread.

When writing essays or science projects in public school, teachers love it when you cite your sources. At least, that's what my teachers have told me and brainwashed me with for how long I can bother remembering for.
