Airsoft League New Tournament Format

Postby CommieHunter » Wed Aug 03, 2011 11:41 am

Who wants to run the first event like this up here?

I'd imagine you'd be able to get a decent amount of support through the league, and I'd certainly be there to run this type of course.

Isn't the entire fun of airsoft to shoot real people?
If I wanted to do IPSC I'd do so with real steel.

Also hit sensors would make people sit behind cover hiding their vulnerable bits all day.

this would be the only thing that could save airsoft for me.... and i wouldn't participate in any of the team based competition, because the ability to cheat or shrug off hits is still there...

i would how ever find great value in the action - airsoft portion of the league.

the "range" can be almost any area "made safe".
cost in ammo
training value
paper and the clock dont lie or cheat like most of the players i have played with.
I am not half as good as I want to be, but I am twice as good as you think I am.

Not entirely. I'm having quite a time getting IPSC certified, and, as Ka-BAR mentioned, there's ammo costs. I can train with a similar skillset, practice on all the same gear, and spend almost nothing in ammo.

Anyway, it just seems like needless expense to me. I can't think of a game I've played that people haven't cheated at, and just trying to keep people honest rather than spending thousands of dollars on something that will have a way to cheat with just seems pointless to me.

IPSC on the other hand is a little interesting to me, and I might take part in that if it were available here.

I think with some additions into it, such as have a area/line that if a team mate enters/crosses before the corresponding target is completely hit/"killed", the team would get a penalty. Also, from the looks of it, the DM only has a hand full of targets he can shoot, and only he can shoot those targets. That just seams silly to me. I also like this cause you could vary the ranges of targets, and how far the team must run to finish the course.
My father once told me, "Some times all you have is a bullet and a prayer, don't miss."

It will never replace shooting at people, but it I can definitely see it's training value in getting down your skill sets. Competition can be added to make it fun and competitive.

Sounds like it would be fun. Although you could setup something like this much cheaper with a few basic materials. Folks around here have talked about organizing shooting competitions like this, but they never seem to take off.

That looks rad. I am sure something like that could be done at most of the paint ball fields around here. I am definitely down.

Highly doubtful this would work here.

I mean, as soon as you start scoring quantitatively, it puts everyone on even footings. And then you can prove who is faster / more accurate. And nobody likes coming in second place.

I'd love to be wrong. But as someone who tried putting one of these courses together a while back, my belief is that the market simply isn't there.

Nobody wants science. They want subjective scoring by admins with clipboards and a predetermined "best" way to win, and actors, and enough sloppiness in the controls to give them room to wriggle out from not winning. They don't want times, and numbers, and replicated consistancy from team to team.

Airsoft Pacific has too many tactical tools who don't want to be shown how much they suck. Or don't want everyone else to see how much they suck.

It was too popular. At least, I liked it. :)

I understand that this particular system is more expensive, and electronics aren't %100 necessary. We could do it with paper, or aluminum the way the CAGE did.

Honestly, I'd love to do IPSC, Carbine courses, and 3 gun competitions with airsoft guns instead of real firearms. (I'd like to do it with firearms too, airsoft is simply more accessible).

The last couple of times these were set up, they were canceled by the promoter. Troy's Airsoft SWAT competition was canceled because he didn't feel he had the needed amount of people pre-paid, not because no one showed up. BSP Challenge promised us a carbine and pistol course in singles and pairs, but it was nowhere to be found.

Just do it and we'll come. Please.
