Event Registration / Player Accountability

Postby Riddick » Sat Jul 02, 2011 5:23 pm

There has been alot of talk about adjustments to how people register for events to increase accountability on safety/gameplay rules, private forum participation, etc, etc. An idea has been floating around about having players sign up themselves for events basically doing away with the +1's, +6's, etc.

Im not sure that by making people register for an account on AP it's going to solve any issues such as not reading the safety rules or gameplay rules, participate in private forums, etc,etc on its own.

A player ultimately holds the key to weither or not they are going to be a pro-active consciousness player in terms of taking the time to read what the host has planned and posted and follow through.

I am okay with the notion of allowing the continuation of +1's, +6's, etc based on the contingent that the person signing them up is held accountable for them knowing the rules and what needs to be done on gameday. They know the person. If they feel that they do not want the risk of tarnishing their own reputation here then they don't sign up for that person. We hold them to a level of accountability on age sponsorships and no shows, so why not this? Again if they feel the person or persons are not worth vouching for then they don't speak up for them and tell them to get their own account and post up that they are going.

for my own events, I will make sure that all rules and anything that is not considered "confidential" to the event is posted in the public forums so that its accessible to them. I am also going to have a vertical banner made with all the rules on it. Posted by the registration tent.

I also don't believe 18+ age limits are a solution because the hacking and cheating and blind firing is being done at all age levels.

Thoughts?

I think that recognized teams should be allowed to sign up +whatever, however individuals should not be. There is 0 responsibility to an individual who signs up for +6 and one of their +6 fucks up. By forcing people to register for a FREE account on here, it allows people to have an account name associated with them. This way should the screw up, they can easily be identified to the other event promoters (or added to a watch list).

TL;DR, it's easier to say JewishNinja didn't call his hits at LOWIII than one of Jester316's +5 wasn't calling his hits. His name is Barrett, but he doesn't have an AP account.

i think there should be a strict limit on how many other people can sign up through one person. i usually only do one which is usually reserved for people who are trying airsoft out for the first time. also keeping the limit low its easier to manage what they should do before the game or, if they decide not to come, drop them easily.

i wrote this on your event thread Riddick, sorry about that.

this should be posted not in open forms, we are going to have nothing but people who have never hosted posting opinions on here, and it will degrade to a age argument yet again.

Because obviously, players should have no say in the matter.

I pose this question to the people who sign up the +1's: why don't your friends have accounts on AP? Are you comfortable with your future participation in events riding on their shoulders?

There are a good number of people who don't like AP or just don't care about it. They just want to show up and play. I see nothing wrong with this.

Ivan, if people don't care about this community, why should the be allowed to games that are hosted through this site? As far as I know, Rick (and most other event promoters) doesn't advertise on any of the other sites (or if he does, he redirects them here). Why does it matter if people don't like AP? They don't have to check it everyday, they don't have to read off topic. They look at the events, and sign up for the ones they want to go to. Yes, I understand why people would want to avoid this website like underage thai hooker porn... but that doesn't mean they can be a nameless face at games that are advertised on here.

I have to say I have never understood the +1. people should just sign up for themselves but I also not against it as long as they are prepared.

1: I don't see why it matters if they care about the community or not. I believe they should be allowed to attend games, because I need people to shoot with/against and why not them?

2: I don't see why the need to check the site at all. As long as they know the rules and play honorably (Which doesn't require having a profile on AP).

3: Why would you avoid underage Thai hooker porn?

And another point: To you, what is the difference between DeltaSWAT455 and someone's +1? Will you know who either of these people are? Will you be able to take action against either of them?

the problem i and many others have seen over the last couple of years is the people who show up and think the game is a live action call of duty, and only k/d ratio means they are cool. they have no vested interest in the community, and don't give a shit about the game's rules or playing honorably. these are the guys who wont call a hit that they notice on themselves if they think nobody else noticed it. the only reason they are there is to shoot at the people they don't recognize being around them when the event started, and brag about how many people they "owned" at the end of the day.

ive noticed almost all of the people i have witnessed with this playstyle are unfamiliar, and i assume they are usually a +1. granted, i think mandatory registration on AP to attend the large events wont weed a lot of these people out, but some other solution should be considered by event coordinators.

ive been playing airsoft in the PACNW for a hair over 13 years now, and these last few have seen an unprecedented growth of new players into the sport, which is great. a lot of them have been squared away people, but the ratio of stand up folks to careless douchnozzles is starting to crawl into an undesirable number. ive felt less and less inclined to go to many larger events, solely because i know there will undoubtedly be more and more of the players that make it not fun anymore, and i can think of several of the more veteran members of the community who feel similarly to myself. it bums me out to see so many of the people who helped make this sport what it is in the pacific northwest so disillusioned with what it seems to be fast becoming.

Do I think that getting rid of the +1 system will solve all the problems? No, however I believe that it will allow for better enforcement of the noshow/watch/hacker/whatever lists. We don't know people by their names. We know them by their AP account. This way we don't have faceless +1's showing up. It allows gives one more addition to the idea of everyone reading the rules. If they have an account here, then there is no reason for them to not have read them.
