What about pistols?

Postby Philip J. Fry » Tue Nov 23, 2010 7:45 pm

Cant say Ima newb but Ive got a few questions. Do People use pistols as primaries? Are they effective? What would be a real downside to using them as primaries? Thanks, your knowledge is appreciated.

They could work for cqc. Some people use them outdoors, but they rarely hit anything.

Pretty newb of a question. ;)

Pistols are used as back-up weapons for a reason. Accuracy, range, ammo capacity, etc.

You could always get an extended mag or extra mags and a barrel extension. Smg would probably be a better investment.

you know they cant just be secondaries especially with airsoft where the range is about the same I just plainly like the looks of pistols.

You will be gunned HARD if you come to a game and play with just a pistol, unless you're Rentax.

The NBB SOCOM Mk23 with the barrel extended to the end of the suppressor is pretty much the only acceptable pistol-primary.

Also, use the search function, I know we've had this discussion before.

I did I typed in a few things and didnt get what I was looking for. Some pistols can achieve a range of 100 ft but of course I wouldnt compare it to my AEG which reaches up to 180 ft easily.

Hmm...yes, you're 88, so you know everything. Please use a real age--like 15, as befits your question.

I'll tell you what. We'll go play in the woods. You and all the pistols you want. I'll bring my M16. We'll see who actually shoots who more.

Want to put money on it?

NBBs are you only hope, and even then you need to be very good with a pistol in order to pull it off. I personally use pistols a lot, but I never expect to do well once I pull them out, I'm just screwing around.

I only carry a pistol because it looks cool. I never expect to use it, and when I do I don't expect to come out on top in a shootout. But I do think they're a lot of fun to use/have.

I use an HFC C-96/M712 with a flush magazine, but in the past I've run a WE M1911A1 with four mags, all loaded to realcap to compensate for their HORRIBLE efficiency.

Avery Kerr used a pistol as a primary in PTOC. he owned faces.

Arron and Rentax both took many seasoned players names, myself included, with pistol primaries.

could you use a pistol as a primary? i doubt it.

Inorder to pull off a pistol primary you need to be several things;

1) Have good knowledge of Field Craft
2) Have teamwork to get in close
3) Expect to shot at close range
4) Have lots of money for loads of magazines

Thats pretty much it. Fact is there are rifles for a reason. Why spend that much money on a subpar platform for field play. For CQC I'd say knock yourself out, but for field play not so much.

Take it from the veterans, go with an M4 or something that can be used on the field and in CQC. You'll be much happier. Especially when you are getting outgunned and crying about not getting any "kills".
My sword runs at 450 FPS, try to out run that! 35+ Sword/Knife Kills and counting.

Damn near anything you can do with a pistol, you can do better with a carbine.

-Longer sight radius
-Higher magazine capacity
-Three points of stability rather than two
-Longer Barrel

Pistols are generally only useful as a backup until you can get your primary reloaded / unjammed, or scavenge another primary from somebody else. About the only exceptions are when concealability is your primary motivating factor or when working from behind an older ballistic shield.
