Respawn idea

Postby DJ » Tue Aug 03, 2010 5:07 pm

I noticed several games having heat exhaustion issues of late. I too have gotten involved in the games to such an extent that I got dehydrated. An idea came to me that would help solve the issue of people not bringing/drinking enough water. At respawn points a cooler stocked with cold water. in order to respawn you must drink a bottle of water before you can leave the spawn point. Bottled H2o part of entry fee. Your comments please?

That's a very interesting idea. If you don't mind, I'd like to try something like it for Holy Wars. Unofficially, of course.

Water at respawn sounds good but trying to enforce such a rule would just be a pain double so for the cannon fodder.

The issue is that many of the inexperienced will not drink......too amped to get back at it.

At the last 3 games I've attended, I've had 3+ gallons of water stocked at respawn for anyone who needs it.

At Resurrection II, I'll be bringing 12 gallons of water to be split up by the sides. I encourage anyone else who wants to, to go to Safeway, and pick up their "Refreshe" 1 gallon jugs for $0.88 per unit. I do not want to have to treat people for dehydration (since I'm going to be medic for the game too).

What if there were the mini water bottles? Then drinking an entire bottle wouldn't be all that much.

Already was using this method after the last Rez game. Nice to see others having the same idea as I

What happened individual accountability? I don't need an event promoter to tell me to drink water. If they supply it for others, fantastic, but making it mandatory is unnecessary.

heat exhaustion is unpleasant, heat stroke can likely kill you. I go through several Camelbac's when its over 80.

Educating younger/more inexperienced players on how to properly hydrate themselves should be covered during briefings, stressing not only the importance of carrying an ample amount of fluids on your person, but also on not overly exerting yourself and then "chugging," which can be just as dangerous as not hydrating at all. Simply supplying the means to hydrate is not enough.

Mini water bottles seem to cost more for some reason...

Costco has a good price for water, a 24 Pack of .5 liter bottles for around $7-$8.00

I think just making sure everyone has water when they respawn (refilling) would be good, players can remind each other to stay hydrated.

I have suffered from some sort of heat exhaustion/dehydration before, I was at Bullwinkles or something rather, in less than a few seconds I went blind and lost feeling in my legs, my dad was quick to act and had taken me to the concession stand and got ice and water, saved me a trip to the hospital. Its not fun.

When new events are posted, it could include a reminder to bring water, but there are usually briefings before games begin, event coordinators can mention importance of hydration.

It seems like common sense, but again, people don't seem to have much of that lately.

I've never had heat exhaustion. I take a water bottle or hydration pack whenever I think I will be doing something physical.

Water bottles or hydration packs could be a requirement to play. :o

What brand are you getting? I got a 30-something pack of .5 litre bottles for under $4. I try to bring at least one case of water to every game I go to. If not that, I bring a small pack filled with bottles to share.

Maybe we should let nature run its course and weed out the stupid.

Haha seriously though, it wouldn't be a bad idea but then you might have people who never get hit being out in the field for a long time, and those that get hit a lot always coming back and being forced to drink water. However, those that are out in the field for long periods of time should know well enough to drink water, although ideally so should everybody.
This is my signature. Hear it roar.
