This is a potential event, a trial balloon so to speak. If it will not fly I'm good with that, If it does so be it. I'm combining a bunch of ideas here, A newbie event, a desire by the more Southern folks to have something closer to them, A chance to have a game on "suicide ridge" & in the swamp, all into one idea & event.
I may be blowing soap bubbles out my arse with this. Thats why I'm asking for your input. I'll give it some consideration after the much appreciated input. This costs me nothing to do ......I own the property, so I have nothing to loose . I'm not trying to compete with anyone or engage in any team politics. I've got past that a decade or so ago. Thanks again.

Do you have Paintball/Airsoft insurance? An event with lots of new folks could be a potentially dangerous liability for the land owner. Homeowners insurance isn't going to cover an Airsoft specific accident, with new people you don't know and especially new younger players, there's always a risk of a lawsuit.

Secondly do you have facilities out there on the farm? Depending on the size of your audience you may need a couple toilets. They cost about $100 each so you could easily cover it with a cash raffle or something. Just a thought.

Despite the fact that it costs money to host events like these at either Splat Action, Sniperz Den or Warpaint... you get their insurance coverage with it.

You might also consider that hosting this event such a short time after another big event with a Swap Meet might be a bad idea. People will "blow their load" so to speak - at the first event, which doesn't leave a lot of gear for sale at yours. Folks seem to accumulate gear in cycles, about every 90 days they're asking "When's that next swap meet?" Although, being in Salem, like you said it just might work out to due to regional differences.

DJ, this sounds pretty cool. I'd love to go to something like this, depending on the date of course. Girlfriend goes to college near the end of August and I want to help her move in. But I think a lost of us SO folks would be able to make it.

Thanks Matt, Of your issues raised, this is the only one that I do not have covered. Any recommendations of sources for event specific sources for the Insurance or contacts?

Don't you need a sheet just stating that You will not be held responsible for injury or other stuff that happens? And have them sign it?

Anyways, i will be there, as well as V!AR to rent out guns and equipment.

Try those guys, they had "single event" insurance last time I checked. It was pretty expensive, but with the popularity of Airsoft rising I would assume it may have come down.

Folks at ABT or the Farm field may have newer sources.

Waivers may or may not hold up in court. It's better than nothing, but not as good as insurance.

Very cool Pickles, I'll keep you posted.

Re the waiver thing, I wish a waiver was all you need. When you have assets, its unfortunately worth about what the paper the waiver is printed on is worth. I carry a mil rider policy on top of my regular ins. I'm not going to charge anything for the use of my property, but I'm checking into event insurance costs . It may indeed be cheaper to use a place like warpaint which is close by. But that raises a whole set of other issues....... stay tuned air soft fans!

cant wait to hear more about this.
As far as waivers go, even though mine has been set up by a professional for my tattoo shop i still carry quite a bit of insurance.
You just never know what can happen and it's usually random weird stuff if and when it does.

Hey i'm a fairly new airsofter and this and the swap meet are both things i am really looking forward to.
My reason (might sound dumb) is just so i can meet all the people who i would be airsofting with in the future. I garantee that all new airsofters would love to just hangout, maybe buy a thing or two and just meet everyone on AP!

Ok then - I'm moving this to general discussion. You are asking for input, seems more like an idea being discussed than an event since there's no date set.

I'm all for helping out new folks any way I can. It's a good thing that two teams are planning events to help welcome new folks.

After talking with many people, I discovered that this event closely duplicated another event (Summer slaughter) that is occurring in July. I would encourage all of you to attend the Summer Slaughter. I am going to move the AIRSOFT FAIR out a bit and see if I can score a venue big enough to do a CQC themed training during the crappy weather. If any of you have real estate connections I would ideally like an vacant warehouse or supermarket. I know there is a buttload of vacant commercial property available right now.......so if any of you are in the know regarding a location, contact me before I go fishing on my own.
