Problem with the Thunder B soundflash grenade

Postby Nox » Sun Mar 07, 2010 5:56 pm

Hey all,
I picked up a Thunder B set from AONW (AWESOME effing grenade) but I took it out to use it today and after 1 toss, it blew the top off the grenade, leaving the threads from the body stuck into the core unit. I am afraid to dig too hard since the head is plastic and the inners are aluminum (plastic breaks, aluminum scratches)

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so - how did you fix it?

I tried a makeshift spanner wrench to take the aluminum piece out of the head, but its stuck in there tight and it migt be reverse thread, so I could be making matters worse.

Thanks for any and all help!

It's not reverse . Yea your gonna need to dig the remainder of that outta the threads . Don't happen very often but its not really that bad . Just gotta be careful not to strip the top piece threads . Good luck with that . 8)

You have to be careful and work slow but eventually you can pull out one section and cut it using a small hobby knife. Then you can pull the rest out.

Did you talk to Jesse at AONW? He knows how to get it out when it does that.

Haven't had this happen yet, but I have faced some other problems with the Thunder B's which I have been able to remedy. If anything else comes up I might be able to help with that.

My problem with the Thunder B's is them not going off. I've thrown 4 of them and none of them rupture. I had read that it might be bad q/c on the fllash bang shell itself but I haven't bought any of the pineapple shells to test this.

Have you checked the plastic o-ring that helps hold the rubber seal in place?

No I haven't. Where is that and what should it look like?

It's under the Aluminum Cylinder. The cylinder holds the puncture pin, rubber seal, and the plastic o-ring. When you unscrew the Aluminum cylinder inside the housing, it will of course fall free, but in turn it will also bring the puncture pin down with the rubber seal attached to it, and the plastic o-ring, well, I guess it's actually a washer, should be on top of it.

I had the same problem with mine; the shells wouldn't rupture; but then I opened it up, and it turned out that the rubber seal had gotten bunched up under the plastic washer, thus it was not doing its job.

This could be your issue, and unfortunately I have been unable to find pix. If someone else doesn't get a chance to post some, I will try to this afternoon. Hopefully around 1-2 o'clock. The race is on.

On that note, does anybody have any more of those plastic o-rings? I lost mine & I can't find my packet of spares.

Same thing here... My friend picked up one at our local cqb place a few
games back. The pin was pulled, spoon flopping about est... But the shell
wasn't cracked. I told him what it was (he thought it was just a dummy)
and that it *should* be armed. He was saying he had been flipping the
spoon around for a few minutes while he was in cover under fire when the
thing went off in his hands... Priceless moment! And his facial expression
was hilarious… It was worth the hearing damage too.

So this plastic o ring will go into the top part with the spoon assembly, right? Does it go above or below the rubber seal and if that seal is damaged do I need a replacement?

It goes above the rubber seal. The seal should not sustain much damage, but if it does, Thunder B makes repair parts. I am not sure if they make a repair seal. You may be better off buying a new center module.
