Airsoft Pacific's Reputation

Postby Cap n pickles » Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:44 am

The Grammer nazi shit needs to stop. Yes i have grammer issue's and those have been stated on more than 15 occasions (just a wild guess).

Really, Its retarded and not mature at all to constantly bug someone due to spelling errors or other things. The fact Is, I tend to be sloppy on my spelling. Im trying to catch my mistakes, but most the time I post Im In a hurry, or Im just typing faster than god. It is something I need to work on, and keep working on. But the fact is you can read It, you know what Im saying. Spelling is meant to get points across during a discussion.

Now, AP's rep: I talk to a lot of people about my intrest in airsoft, I got a friend to come out and try It, and he loved It, I told him to go here and post an intro and look around. There Is plenty of Info on guns, and gear. Upcoming games and all the sorts. I tell almost everyone who takes intrest in this sorta stuff to come here and take a look.
But when a friend says to me that the Grammer nazi attack is very off putting and makes AP seem like its a bunch of dicks running around with dictionarys, i question AP in general on how they take in the new players or even the veterans. When it makes you feel like you dont want to get on, thats the breaking point on how much of this stupid bullshit needs to go.

I will no longer be pointing people who take intrest in this sport to Airsoft Pacific. I find Airsoft Pacific, with some regulars and a even some of the mods very disrespectfull towards individuals or groups. We all have our differences, and taste in gear, but it is no reason to hate on, flame on, or beat on someone because of that. It is imature, and very rude.

So I will not be sending people to this website anymore. Its disgusting.

I will be talking to some people in person about these issues, over the course of FW3 and OP:B. I am a man about these kind of things, and pefer talking about this stuff in person, than on the phone or here.

I enjoy the games ive been to so far, and meeting people in person is great fun, but the forums are swelling with used tampons.

really? you mean to tell me that you are going to stop directing people to this site.....BRILLIANT!

i am not sure if you can see it in your self-centered world, but AP has been the largest community airsoft site, in the WORLD.

i doubt the palsey trickle of traffic you have sent to AP amounts to even 0.001 percent of the viewers.

go buy a dictionary and read in like it was a novel, then there is a sequel called a thesaurus, read that too..... then when you think about posting again, go get the encyclopidia brittanica, and read that too.

that should keep you busy for a while.

p.s. i guess this thread is your contribution to the tampon pile?

It was nice of you to prove his point. Maybe you should learn to use capital letters and proper punctuation before you decide to critique someone else.

That guy you directed on here that shady something. His spelling is atrocious. Aeono had better spelling while he was drunk. It made it extremely tough for me to read anything he wrote. And you are defending that? This is not a text message.

You capitalized the "I" in "in" although it should not have been capitalized...
JK, you have a good point but you're going to find grammar nazi's, and other rude people, pretty much everywhere on the internet. It's not just AP.

When you choose text as your method of getting your ideas across and establishing an online identity, how you represent yourself through that text is going to weigh in on the assumptions other users make about your character. In short, if your writing looks uneducated, people will assume you're uneducated.

If you claim to be typing too fast, slow down. Re-read what you've written before slamming home on the 'submit' button. I've already made about 15 typos as I've written this very post, but I proofread as I go along. It slows me down, but I can think about what it is that I'm really trying to say since I'm allowing myself the extra time.

That said, AP is a tough-love community. We've never been the hand-holding fuzzy warm bunch of guys. Don't take everything that's said at face value. There's a tiny bit of humility needed to get along with any group, but it's important to have a bit of thick skin as well. If you're going to get upset about "everyone" calling you out on your grammar, perhaps you are the one that needs to change, instead of expecting "everyone" to. Either learn to ignore/mitigate the comments, or pay attention to how your writing reflects on you. Preferably both.

While I will not disagree that there is a HUGE amount of dickishness on AP, I would like to defend myself and a few others, they may name themselves, they will know if they are the type of people I am mentioning.

When I correct someone's errors on this site, it's usually because they tried to treat the forum I really enjoy utilizing like a text message or someone's myspace page. I always tell new users to work on their shit, unless they already are good at it.

I can remember several occasions, but name no names, where a user has wowed me with their grammatical skills in their first post, AND THEY WERE 15. It doesn't happen often, but it's happened.

Grammar Natzees come in when they've seen the bullshit over and over and OVER again with not an ounce of improvement. It's as if the kind advice was tossed aside as if a whisper, and the user kept blaring their mass spelling and grammar atrocities to Kingdom Come.

I understand your frustration, and I'm sure I'm one of the "Natzees" you're talking about, possibly even one of the guys you'll want to yell at in person, but as far as I've experienced with you, Cap'n Pickles, I'm just giving you crap. I give it to everyone, and they give it back. I am an equal opportunity Crap-Giver.

So, should you decide to yell at me come Belligerence, I will be the gentleman in Woodland with Red Hair. Very hard to miss.

I think grammar Nazi's are very good things, however I do see a trend in people simply beating others down. I don't see how this is constructive. I believe that an extremely high grammatical and spelling standard should be in place, however I also feel that correcting those who don't have said standard in a way that is rude should stop.

I also believe that those 19 year old people and others who can't spell need to take the time to FIX IT. I mean come on, I'm 15, I'm typing pretty darn fast right now, and there's only red on the "nazi's" and the "olds". Simply because I didn't capitalize the "n" and because "olds" isn't a word.

There. Fixed. Difficult? Hardly. I think it would behoove us to all ensure that we are using the highest standard of spelling and grammar simply for the sake of your own reputation, and for the sake of others who must read it.

Personally, if anything, I find the way this site is run to be way too laid back in more cases than not. Just browsing this forum compared to others I see many things:

1. An Off-Topic section, which gets generally more posts than anything airsoft related. Most other major forums have completely done away with this section, as it often gets out of hand, however the moderators here have done a good job it seems of keeping it under control and allowing it to even exist.

2. Nobody jumps on anyone for small posts. Why? Because we all get along here. Other sites give negative reputation, infractions, and even ban people for small posts on a topic if they don't contribute considerably to the topic at hand. Here it is encouraged for everyone to speak their mind, no matter how small, which is very pleasant.

3. Opinion posts are not thrown out, screamed at, and ripped apart. Many other sites out there, if anyone ever posts "Should I get X gun or Y gun" people often have flame wars as to who can chime in first to say "WHATEVER YOU WANT D00D DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH GOOGLE IT", etc. (Sorry for the bad grammar, as it was for emphasis).

In reality, this is the most peaceful, laid back, yet well run and encouraging airsoft community I have found. The sites that do not encourage grammar often lead to nothing more than posts about which CYMA gun is the best and generally lead to more bad information than good. Turning new people away from the plethora of good information and helpful people on this site is going to do nothing more than hurt them, as you are removing a valuable resource that could progress them significantly faster.

If you think you can help them and answer all of their questions, great. However from my personal extensive experince, I will still be the first to admit that I don't know everything about the sport and everything associated with it. Thats why I'm thankful to have a place such as AP as a reference.

And really, if you have THAT much of an issue with spelling and grammar, open up Word, type your response in there, have it auto-correct your document, then copy paste. It is just as quick as typing a reply.

Good luck to you and all of the people you introduce!

My suggestion? Improve yourself. If the grammar natzees seem to be hitting you harder than others, perhaps its time to improve your syntactical abilities. It's made a world of difference for me.

The other thing: Learn to not take shit so seriously. I've had a recent realignment of mentality, owing to a very poor choice, that's made me realize that this is the Internet. None of it means anything. Nic told folks he was going to light me on fire at FW3. I told him I was looking forward to it.

In short, if everyone can just calm the shazaam down, we should be okay.

No, the Fact is: I joined AP for the intrest on milsim and airsoft in general. I loved all the info i found, and the games that were going on. One day, a little orge (who ive met in person, very nice gentleman.) decides to comment on my spelling, I do a little defending, and before you know It, half of AP Is bullshitting about my spelling and how horrible It Is. I defended myself In that I know I cant spell too great, so leave It alone please, but thus, It has not stopped.

It doesnt matter that AP is the biggest airsoft community in the world, its the fact that im disgusted with it.

Example: Walmart is a big bleeding store, one of the biggest chain store in the U.S., but i dont shop there.

Why? I find It gross and disgusting, ghetto and very crappy customer service.

Same here, technically speaking, Im a customer, a guest, im not satisfied with this because of the service i am getting. I know i dont pay money to them, but i am traffic on this site.

Also, Karma asked who it was that got me threw highschool. well here's a fact; i did not finish highschool. *gasp*

I grew up in a split family, a step dad on the verge of a$$ hat. I never saw the light of day, I chopped wood all summer, and was grounded most of the time during the school season due to grades, I dropped out, and I havent looked back since. I hated school with a passion, just as I hate my job. I never finished my education, and It shows. But God bleeding damn It, I never showed disrespect towards anyone till that stupid thing about spelling came up, where you guys took It over board.

I never did great in school due to one thing. I love music, when i first picked up a Bass Guitar i never put it back down, i played and played, i skipped homework to learn, and eventually it got me a job teaching it, but i lost it due to a move. I traded super cool spelling and math for a lifetime of Music happiness that can only be understod if you were in my shoes. I enjoy all music, but i play only the simplest stuff, as its easy going and makes me want to scream and jump. Ive played in Jazz bands, bues, Country, punk, metal, indie, and a 600+ kid string band when i played cello long ago.

So yes, i lack a super high intrest and cubical job education, But i have music. Which in turn was the best thing ive have ever done with my life. And my spelling and lack of highschool diploma or even a GED is due to that, and it was way worth it. I can make people smile, or forget about troubles, and enjoy the simple things in life.

So please, tell me what i am missing from your super cool educations, because i will not miss it.
