Large Chinese Airsoft Seizure

Discuss anything and everything here that's Airsoft related.

I agree mike about a topic split...

I do believe that these sort of seizures can ultimatetly stop production in china in the AEG market. Look how long it took them to get going again since the crackdown last year and even then there is not as much production going on compared to what it used to be or even close to be and some companies are still shut down.

Keep in mind that factory owners that get caught also go to jail/prison which are not wonderful places at all compared to our facilities ;-)

there were 3 arrests made in that seizure.

This.

I have family in China as missionaries under cover of education and aide work. *Not interested in discussing it - that's not the point*

Experience for them has taught them that nothing is illegal in china so long as you grease the right palm in the right amount.

It's not considered a bride locally though - it's a 'gratuity' for service - and it's an expected payment for anything you want to happen/not happen.

It's not even money, in most cases, but rather simple favor amongst those that have power or other resources.

Combined with Chinas reflexive 'show of force' nature - the government said "we're gonna squash these guys again to show how awesome we are" - and then in all likelyhood whoever lost the most product was the one that didn't pay the investigators well enough.
With all the pretty flowers and twigs in your ghillie.. perhaps you should take up gardening?

I disagree. Even if they were to cause the chinese airsoft market to crumble (they won't), the vacuum would be, relatively at least, short lived. Perhaps in the future it would be Phillipino airsoft companies. Or Vietnamese. God forbid Americans make their own airsoft guns. But there will always be a market for AEGs with rock bottom prices.

And also, I think cheap AEGs are ultimately good for airsoft. Yeah there are more jackasses, but there are more serious players who started off using cheap guns too. So its kind of a wash.

Yeah, pretty much. Plus you can count on them playing the "made in the good 'ol US of A" card to try and force airsofters to pay an extra $200.

Still though, even if it was grossly overpriced, it'd be nice for there to be one.

I'd happily pay a premium for made in the USA products on the basis that I knowing no one died making my toys.

The Ironic thing, I suppose, is the fact that while I support the idea of an American airsoft company, I would almost surely not be able to afford to buy replicas from them. And I think there are probably a lot of airsofters just like me, too.

I've also thought that an American airsoft company would be awesome; but on the other hand, a basic metal M4 from them would probably cost as much as a tricked out one from a foreign manufacturer.
Not too affordable, really.

UTG tried this. Their metal body M4s are assembled in the US, but no-one even talks about them 'cause the gun isn't that special, and it costs more than similar guns.

It's not only not special, it is a piece of junk if the one my friend had is any indication. It was a couple months in and the BB's only went like 20ft.

One model isn't indicative of a brand. Their guns aren't bad, they're just $150 more than most people will pay for any particular model and features.

Also, they're not the best looking when you get into their rail models, as Rick pointed out.

That is true, but he forked out that extra 150$ and received (according to the guy who tried to fix it) something at JG level parts, assembled badly.
