You could easily build a staff weapon body around a springer shotgun. Problem is, a staff without the energy bolt can never really a staff

They snuck onto Earth with just the bare essentials and set up camp. Then they got the guns on Earth to use in their attempt to take the gate. Gives the SGC a respawn point. The Alliance gets just outside the front door for one.

Dude, Type-97s are not earth weapons...The Chinese obviously got them from aliens in the future. That's why it's the futuristic sci-fi weapon of choice.
