this is the response you'll get if you don't bother doing some searching

page.php?p=safety

RUBBER KNIFE KILLS

Players are allowed to "tap out" other players with rubber or plastic knives made for safe Airsoft use. Touch your opponent with your rubber knife and simply tell them that they're dead. Contact should be no more than a tap; there's absolutely no slashing, throwing, hitting or martial arts physical contact allowed. Contact must be made with a rubber or plastic replica of a knife, sticks and other objects do not work. DO NOT tap another player in the head, neck, face or groin. Players eliminated by this method should try and acknowledge their hit/death silently.

You asked for opinions, you got opinions. Most of it is good info. You should read and heed. If you think this is a hate fest, you have no idea.

And we mean you really don't.

flying large objects are, as they should be, limited to simulated explosive projectiles, such as grenades, 203 rounds, simulated rockets of various types. Knives and tomahawks are not to be included in that category, because in case you didn't know, those hurt like a phony pony. Even the rubber ones. If you don't believe me, have someone throw a tomahawk at you at 10 feet. To get enough momentum to get a thrown weapon to fly that far accurately, it needs to be going fast, and that's why it's a safety no no.

I can admit using rubber knives is kinda stupid. The last game I went to where rubber knives were allowed. Not one person got a knife kill. The reason was no one could get close enough to enemy to use there knives.

I've pulled off about a dozen knife kills over the years.
I've never hulked out and slashed at somebody with it, always just a tap on the shoulder or a gentle poke in an unprotected area to let them know somebody was standing behind them.
I have had people flip out, and claim that rubber knives are stupid or unsafe or useless, but I think it as just anger out of embarrassment for letting a 6'4" redhead sneak up on them.

This is how I use my rubber knife, when I actually bring it. It's probably the safest use for rubber knives, instead of trying to get those super l33t ninjA knife kills from 20 ft. away.

I got a shovel kill while doing reenacting. The German was quite angry.

I saw some helmet cam footage a guy at Lion Claws doing a bunch of suicide knife kill runs. Amusing.

I can respect a good knife kill when you sneak up on somebody and catch them off guard... But when people run around like idiots with the sole intention of getting knife kills, hate it. 90% of the time they are getting hit in the gear and they don't know it. They are so excited about how awesome they think they are, they didn't realize they got hit. Secondly, knife kills aren't easy. You would never intentionally take out a knife in combat when your rifle works just fine, that type of shit happens in cheesy action movies.

I don't have a problem with people trying to get knife kills, but you shouldn't get butt-hurt if someone unloads on you from 5 feet because you jumped out in front of them and scared them shitless.

That said, knife fights (in the parking lot, or between two people) are kinda fun.

Much respect. You see, I'm a 6'4" redhead myself, and sneaking around becomes a whole lot more difficult when you're a red giant roaming around the woods!

I've never liked the idea of knives on the field to be honest, if you wanna get a close up kill, just put your muzzle on somebody's shoulder and safety kill them. There are quite a bit of people who are well rounded enough to use a knife responsibly, but knives are just another way for the half-asses to exploit the system and do something unsafe. "Unsafe" as in throwing it, or using it as a "tomahawk."

(Does anybody have any info on whether or not a thrown object has actually succeeded in killing an enemy in combat? Kinda curious to see if it's happened.)

I saw footage of Randy Couture throwing a warhead at a helicopter. Does that count?
