And for a moment I'm taking back to my time in the army . . . . instead of worrying about if a uniform was fading, I remember putting them in the wash, on hot, using a couple cups of bleach, after drying, i'd starch and iron them, then put them right back in the wash, and I'd repeat that cycle until a uniform was "just right". The older and more faded a uniform was, the better I liked it.

Wash them when you can no longer stand them, and when you do, use your quickest cycle with cold water only. In the past, my Marpat was more prone to fading.

My MC pants are about 2 years old (plus however old/used they were when I bought them) and still look new. I only wash my BDUs when they get too wiffy to stand wearing them, and when I do, I knock all the loose dirt and such off, then throw them in the washer with cold water and no soap. Then I hang them up and let them air dry.

You...wash camo? Man, I think my gear gets washed a few times a year (I.E. when it smells, not when it's dirty). I guess I don't play too many games in it but still.

I havent had much experience with the bright tiger stripe camo but the kind that is already pretty dark looking does fade quickly. I have just had luck with ripping most of mine before they fade too much. be careful though the crotch seam in them is probably a little weak.

get a better set of marpat. the issued stuff is WAY better than the propper and truspec, although it usually is more expensive and harder to find. ive washed my issued set after every game, and they still look brand new. ive had them for probably seven or eight years now.

example: this is from less than a year ago, and that set i am wearing is at least six years old, and was washed after every use.

+1 real marpat is the bee's knee's. I paid 60 for a full set and I haven't looked back

febreeze goes a long way.. its how most lazy people get by.. febreeze shower anyone?

My MC fades, its sucks but I just soak it in cold water/hand wash and air dry it and touch it up with febreeze to give it a fresh feel.

Where can i get real marpat? I just get my camo at surplus stores. How much do they usually go for?

ok guys heres what someone that was in the service does!

we wash them once a week cause duty booty is rank! RANK!!!! have good hygene and WASH your clothes!!!!!!

when bdus are brand new wash them in cold water on a gentle cycle with a quarter cup of vinegar by themselves or with the apropriate color bath towel. dont use the second rinse but spin them twice and hang dry. they wont fade as much then.

i have had an issued (bought on a military installation) pair of bdus for the last 4 years that i wore every week and am just now replacing them. the green is still green and the black is still black. i wash them every week (by themselves on a gentle cold cycle rinse once and spin twice) cause i sweat like a pig and they stink.

some bdu brands like rothco and fox just use cheap dye, and you cant help that. i had a pair from fox and wased them by the prescribed method and they faded to grey on the first wash! buy quality stuff (propper or mil issue) and do what i said and they will last.

DO NOT USE BLEECH. they will be snow camo in no time!

WASH INSIDE OUT!!! thats what I have been doing and i have had mine for some time. When you are washing the top, try to zip it up.
