Looking for WIKI Contributors

Postby Matt » Tue Feb 28, 2012 11:00 am

I'm planning to launch a WIKI here on AP for informational articles, tutorials, how-to and basic mil-sim information. Mil-sim 101 will explain basic things we all take for granted, and hopefully serve as a great 1-stop resource to get the newb started on the right foot. A set group of folks here on AP will have access to write, edit, and add information. I'm looking for folks who are interested in contributing, if so, sound off here. It would be great to start off with a good sized group.

You don't have to be an HTML wizard or anything to help out, but understanding of WIKI markup can be helpful. Good written communication skills are a must.

Thanks!

I'd be interested in helping out. I don't know anything about wiki-markup but I can learn. I would, however, say that my written communication skills are on par with a wiki.

I've had some wiki experience and I'd be happy to contribute.

I have wiki experience as well, and would offer my trade.

I would be very down to contribute to an AP WIKI, provided the work is licensed CC or something else open.

If you use mediawiki, i'm somewhat familiar with their templates system, not as familiar with any of pmwiki's stuff, and i wouldn't know any other systems at all excepting basic markup.

MediaWIKI is what I'm looking at, it's the front-runner right now.

I Don't know if you've looked in to this, but the infoboxes from wikipedia are really useful, and they have a page devoted to setting up other MediaWiki installs to use them properly.

Tentatively, I can offer to write a little and edit a lot, as I have had quite a few years of editing experience. (Also TESL, but that's only tangentially related, I guess.)

I'm not so sure of how my work schedule will be this year just yet though.

Any sort of sharing of funds created from such a wiki?

I work. ANd for for cheap. But not for free.

I could consider that. Depends on how much is contributed and if the WIKI gets much traffic. It's really meant to be more of an information source for local folks who want to get into the game. The point of a WIKI is that when a bunch of people add information, it's easy to maintain and doesn't take much of our time because we're all adding to it. 100 people writing stuff vs. 1 person writing everything goes a lot faster. That's why WIKIpedia exists, 10s of 1000s of people adding information.

I think you could do a free event per page or some other rewards system. For every 1000 words, you get $10 off an AP event. Just a thought.

Schedule permitting, I'd be happy to contribute. If nothing else, I have an entire wall full of tac gear that has been begging me to be reviewed.
