Camp R&R Village Layout

Postby Sir Stubby Eyre » Sun Jun 05, 2011 8:55 pm

We are going to start building our village soon and we are looking for suggestions. Our buildings will be build out of Adobe block and plastered with a lime finish. We will have about 8-10 buildings located in the middle of our field, where the burn pile was for those who have been out here. The village will have buildings that house things like hay barn, wood working, black smith, radio shack, and things such as that. We need a good layout that will work good for defending. The area is about 200x200 and will have roads and alley ways as well as court yards next to some of the houses. The roads will have a few cars on them, I don't want straight roads . The buildings will be about 10'-0 x 8'-0. We could also have a few that are "ruins". Please help use with some ideas on lay out. Post sketches so that we can debate what would be best. Once we have a good plan I will post a final design and start building.

Thanks for listening and participating.

Big buildings. With multiple rooms. And roofs with good viewpoints.

Like what Nasty posted. That's pretty much what every airsofter wants, but nobody rich will pay to build it for the community. ;)

Edited....

Nasty, you are on the right track. The buildings will look similar to those. The area that we will build in is flatter.

Nasty those are called Minarete on Mosque's.
Camp Rilea on the Oregon coast has a small MOUT site that fit's what Sir Stubby Eyre is looking for.

Russkie, Adobe villages are found in all climates. I have done a lot of research on adobe and choose it because of the versatility and cheapness of the building product. The roofing on those buildings in your photos would cost too much, we are trying to keep the cost down.

Good point. I like Nasty's suggestion of a Mosque with two levels.

Go with cow pies for the adobe , works much better than hay or grass

Stay with 1 story, so you don't have to worry about explaining someone falling out/off of the 2nd story to parents/insurance agencies...

Here's a Mosque Minaret that would work, just have to scale it down.

Sorry, I ate my cows. We are building a compressed brick machine right now to make the adobe bricks.

Mosques don't have to look fancy, nor do they have to be tall. There are metal shacks out here that get used as mosques (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), all the way to massive multi storied buildings with huge minaretts. So don't worry about making it to big. One level with a tower (doesn't have to be a tower a person could fit in), with a speaker in the tower is enough.

I would put two Afghan styled walled-in compounds that each have 1-3 buildings (one living quarters, one barn, central area with a possible well or livestock).

I'd add a few smaller store fronts for things like a pharmacy. I'd fill in some space near the structures with bazaar stands and throw some shit in them to mak them cool.

I'd add a mosque with a large prayer area, a smaller Imam quarters and you can possibly consider a second story with minaret, though you'd probably restrict use of that and also consult land laws as far as two story structures.

I'd add a multiple room structure as well for multiple clearing and it could possibly be a school or military outpost.

Then I'd get some heavy duty wiring and string up some lights and give the electrical wires hanging everywhere feel of Iraq, doubling it's use for night games if you hook up a generator for specific events.
