The other day Maginus and I were talking about mounting/ mounts for cameras on your helmet. Which side, which angle, what height works the best? So my Question to everyone running cameras, no matter what kind.. How Do you Mount your Camera? Do you mount the camera to your strong side or weak side of your helmet? Top of the helmet or the front? Gun mount, Strong or weak side? Being a Contour owner I use the helmet attachment that sticky's to the arc rail on my strong side/ right side with it angled slightly up.. The sticky attachment allows the camera to be as close to the helmet as it can be. The arc rail adapter that fits in the arc rail made the camera hang out a little more then i liked so i decided to use the sticky being more low profile. So, I was wondering how everyone else has their cameras set up? Where do you think the camera mounted is the best place?

I was watching Inside combat rescue and the PJs had their contours setup upside down on the arc rail. Compared to the way I currently have mine setup. I might have to test that way out one time to see what its like. Only problem I see with that setup up depending on how you sight your weapon in. You might see the target or you might see the ground.. As you'll see in the vid where one pj looks down the rifle and the camera on the helmet looks as if it pointed to the ground. Here is a link to the video i was watching good stuff.. http://youtu.be/W2SuQRhxiME

I use 3M Dual lock and velcro'd on my contour on my weakside, lower profile than putting it on the arc rail, I would mount it upside down to get a better angle, but my Roam's lens dosen't rotate 180 degrees in order to do so.

how does it not? I thought they all did, mine does. mine rotates 270 degrees.

I use the elastic head strap that they sell for the contour as well as my gun mount. I don't wear a helmet or hats, so I don't use any of the mounts for them.

LC12: On the last mission (which was a boring clusterfuck) we were escorting this convoy. My squad got bored and wanted to clear a house with a possible contact. I said its not on mission, then our Pl SGT gives us the go-ahead to clear it.

LC12: Running house to house on the way to an objective. Not a lot of contact due to heavy attrition from the first day.

Sounds like you had a cool PL, not us...
I do hope that after all this discreditable shuffling we may be taken into action. It has a wonderful way of reconciling a man with himself: and with everybody else, sometimes. - 1st Lt. James Dillon

That was our Platoon SGT.

Our PL(and the rest of our "Platoon")disappeared soon after we started despite us being tasked with rear security.

Necro!
(with content)

Just got a new Hero3 (black) and blew nearly half of my summer's savings... Go big or go home. I need a way to mount it to my FAST helmet, maybe an NVG mount (I'm looking for opinions/experience)? I've got an extended battery and head strap, but I don't want a bunch of black straps crossing over my bucket.

Just some leisurely shooting and crappy editing...

I have a gopro with the lcd backpack and i use the NVG mount, You barely notice it up there, shoots great angles as long as your not tilting your head too much to aim down the rail of your gun. Easy to pop it off and turn on, change setting, then pop it back on without taking the helmet off and on.

Yup, helmet mount works great. They make a tiny extension for it as well, but I don't think they sell it on its own yet.

I emailed asking about it, and they just sent me one for free. :)
