Free skirms vs pay events.

Postby Shortbu » Sat Apr 27, 2013 6:44 pm

Went to free skirm in Silverton today with my son, and when returned home began to get a little disgruntled. Why is it that the same people who continue to go to " pay to play" events, then complain about prices. But, when free play comes up, they don't show up. I know tbe difference between skirms and events, but seriously what are these people in airsoft for. I come out to spend time with my son, and friends, and meet new friends, all while having a blast smokin' fools. Maybe it's just me, but I find it more than a little ironic! Airsoft to me is an awesome opportunity to get off my a$$, and spend time with great people throughout the community. I think for some(sadly), it just give them something to compain about.

That's how it goes. People don't take free skirmishes seriously, because they didn't pay. They have nothing to lose by simply flaking out and not showing up for the game. Whereas, a paid game usually has some structure and there's folks relying on you to be there. Sometimes you may have already pre-paid too. People who put on the free games don't take their hosting duties are seriously either, no offense to anybody who does - but we all do it! If the game is free we aren't as obligated to worry about herding all the cats and starting new rounds in a timely manner.

There's pros and cons for both types of games, imo.

Expanding off what Matt said...
Skirmishes are great for just doing whatever, but many of us have been doing this for many years and want structure and what not. Just not capture the flag/flip the deal. It's fun a couple times a year, but eh... Its hard to lose motivation at such games.

Be happy.
I remember a few years that 10-20 people at a game was bleeding awesome.

I wish there were more free skirms! I wish I could go but right now my work has me on most weekends.

I understand the replies to my post, and agree with them. That's why I stated I know there's a difference between skirms and events. What I was getting at is if people are unwilling to go to free skirms, dont phony pony about the cost of reasonably priced events. I have yet to see any of the people I hear complaining about paying to play, or the cost of games, actually come to a free skirm. Most "experienced" players do want more structure to the games they attend. But, most are willing to pay for that, as do I. All I'm saying is quitcha bitchin if you're not going to take advantage of free games. OR, better yet- figure out how to hold your own large, organized event, and do it for next to nothing.

90% of airsoft is bitching and drama. The other 10% is taking pictures.
