DIY Night sights

Postby Nark » Wed Apr 10, 2013 8:11 pm

Hey guys,
Has anyone had any success with DIY night sights for pistol or rifle? I got some glow in the dark paint but haven't seen any real results and I'm wondering if I'm gonna need to do two dozen+ coats to get any result.

glow in the dark paint probably wont work, since it still needs light. If you have used GID bb's you would notice that they store light that is shined on them for around 30 seconds to a minute. But after that they are rather dim. So unless you are moving from light areas to dark areas, such as outside moving into an unlit building. They wouldnt really help. Thats why most night sites are actually made with tritium, which is self illuminating.

Not a bad idea to apply it anyways, im sure its still better than just white paint.

I've seen repro night sights for Glicks on Redwolf, but the almost cost as much as the real thing. I'd try some hi visibility paint. A bright green or yellow should work pretty well.

Wondering if I should just shell out for the Trijicon Tritium sights for the 226. Any idea if they would fit on a KWA P226?

Might as well ask me if I know the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow.

High quality GID paint will do nicely. Hobby store crap won't get you far at all. Hobby store GID paint is next to worthless when it comes to the concentration of fluorescent material in the paint.

I charged the sights on my CQR @ 2200, and when I woke up at 2400, I picked up my gun and I could easily use the sights, it wasn't even pitch black.

The key is repeated coats/applications. The more volume you can pack on, the better. The reflective nature of the holes I drilled on my AK-105 rear leaf sight makes the glow even more pronounced.

I wrote a guide here: http://utahcountyairsoft.net/main/gidsights/
"Oohrah, Gunny. Oohrah, Momma Dog."

I got some Rustoleum GID paint and have completely filled up the sights on my P226 and have applied generous coats to the irons on my M4. Time to charge and see what happens.
