my intro

Postby ReconGeek » Sat Dec 17, 2011 10:14 pm

Hey all,

I know nothing about airsoft. Now that that is out on the table, I am here to learn.

I went into a hooby store recently while looking for holiday gifts and saw an M4 replica that was so damn close the the real one I used to carry in the Army I just kept messing with it and couldn't put it down, if the thing wasn't $250 I would have probably bought it right then and there, but I cannot spend that much without knowing if this was a good deal or even a good piece. Anyhow, when I was in the store the clerk allowed me to handle this thing and the weight and everything was pretty spot on to a real M4, the only real differences were the made in china stickers and the orange muzzle cap. The clerk was asking me things like where do I play and stuff like that and I finally had to admit, "what the heck do you mean by 'PLAY'?", and he responded, "play airsoft", and the conversation went downhill from there since I had no clue people played airsoft and he described it to be similar to playing baintball but with weapons like the one I was holding, and of course I said "Now that sounds like fun". Next thing I know I have an account here, lol...

So, more about me, I'm a mid 30's software guy who spent his early 20's in the Army as a Cavalry Scout, I just recenlty move the Pacific Northwest from the east coast and that's about as long of an intro that I think I should leave, lol...

OK, aside from the guy actually doing the review, what is the general take on this replica? This is the exact one I saw in the store and was thinking about getting. Any feedback would be great...

What company made it?

There are thousands upon billions of companies making ARs adn M4s.

Also, welcome to the AP place, from another former soldier turned butter bean.

Welcome to AP, where people rage quit and little kids exposed to call of duty attempt to live out their dreams by spending their mother's money.

Replica AR's are pretty common, And it's hard to tell what one your looking at.

Anyways, by the time we all can figure out the manufacturer of this replica, you will be introduced by maybe seven to ten other members of our community, all asking the same question.

TL;DR read the stickies and welcome to AP.

welcome to AP, if it says made in china you probably don't want to spend over 200$ on that thing.
and the orange tip is needed for selling or shipping to distinguish it from a real firearm.

go to: www.airsoftgi.com for a better pricing range
or drop by riddick's store located:
1185 12th street, salem OR

and here's an example of the "most ideal" airsoft game:

hope this answers most of your questions
also if you do end up getting a gun try and make it to one of our events

Damn, I thought I posted the youtube link to the review I was checking out on this M4, sorry guys... It is listed with a couple names like cyma M4 CQB, other places list it as Colt CQB (even though it's just licensed by colt and made in china) some other places I have seen list it as Cybergun Colt CQB.

Thanks for the welcome, and this time I am including the link I meant to post in that second post...

I was in a Scout PLT attached to the 1-36 INF, 1st AD back when the 1-36 was at Ray Barracks in Friedberg Germany. Our Scout PLT were the only ones doing our real war time mission when we deployed to Kosovo in 2000, meaning whereas the rest of the deployed soldiers were manning roadside checkpoints and so forth the Scouts were running recon missions throughout the DMZ area between Kosovo and Yugoslavia at the time. And no, those Scouts that got caught and held prisoner in Yugoslavia, were not in my unit, that was the unit we replaced.

OK after doing some more reearch around this site I found warnings against CYMA/Cybergun in this thread http://airsoftpacific.com/viewtopic.php?t=101, but that thread alos says it's very outdated info, so is this statement to stay away from CYMA still valid?

Cyma makes fantastic AK replicas. Not so sure about their M4's. If you are on a budget, Dboys makes a great metal bodied M4 (that doesn't have any marking on it). G&G makes a good plastic body M4 (it's a resilient plastic).

There are 2 walk in airsoft stores in Oregon, one in Cornelius, and one in Salem. I suggest making the pilgrimage to either one and seeing what you like. They will help you get the most out of whatever budget you have.
