ASGI G98

Postby wild_snow_mongoose » Mon Dec 26, 2011 9:51 pm

So, I am considering buying the Airsoft GI G98, however, I am not sure that it is worth the money. I understand that it won't be as good as a sniper that someone has put $1,000 into, I'm just looking for something thats a cut above most AEG's. I would like some advice as to what to buy. Should I get the G98? Should I buy a used, upgraded sniper? Is there something els I should get? My price limit is $260, but if $300 will get me what i need, I'll spend it.

I know what you should get if you want a sniper rifle, but I had no clue that you could purchase the actual sniper using the rifle. There must be a catalog and a system similar to mail order brides for doing this. Let me know about your success with buying THE sniper. Good luck. ;)

Edit: Has anyone else noticed how this guy put this in the INTRODUCTION's section? Shouldn't it be in the bolt's?

You can buy a sniper? You can upgrade people?! IF I EAT 1000 DOLLARS, THAT WILL MAKE ME A BETTER PERSON?!

I have learned so much.

Time to implement these strategies to make me better.

Now, unless we're talking about SNIPER RIFLES, I say buy an AEG even though you don't want to instead of a pre-upgraded rifle. Give that AEG some good lovin' outside of bed, and save money (or worse, spend more).

If you do want to, Look into it. Are you ready to sit for hours on end without firing a single shot? Are you sure this was a proper decision? Being a sniper isn't "l33t K0k uf do0ty snipar qu33k skop3z" status, running around the field shooting fools. It's gathering information from a distance and taking out targets from afar.

TL;DR I'm a nubzors and I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, only speaking of information I've read over these short months of my time on our beloved AP.

Tl;dr II: I. Buy an AEG
II. Upgrade it
III. Make it a DMR
IV. ???
V. Profit.

Very sorry I said sniper instead of sniper rifle.
Hamster, I understand where you are coming from, but I also understand the role of a sniper. Stealth, Recon, and "Waiting for hours on end" ARE things that I like. I'm not some little kid who plays call of duty, I have airsofted for three years now and I am ready to become a sniper.
I was hoping for some advice on what sniper rifle to buy.
I owned a Well MB07 two years ago and was not happy with it. The shots consistently curved 10 to 12 feet to the right out past 120 feet.
First off, what are your thoughts on the G98?

my apologies, sir.

Anyways, I've never operated a bolt platform but I'd go with purchasing a rifle that's been through stuff, maybe becuase it was in action before and could be reliable.

My two cents.

You need more information from experienced people.

Get an Echo 1 M28. I got it recently and it is amazing. For 175$ you get a bolt chronoing 500+ fps out of the box that really internally only needs a tightbore. Use the extra money to get a nice scope and a gillie, or a nice radio and mic. Being a sniper is about being an asset to your team, not getting long range kills.

You already own a rifle? Upgrade that.
You know the feel of the rifle now and can fine tune it with each part you add. You can end up spending about $300, but you will have a lot better gun than the G98. it doesn't take much to get a rifle where you want it with upgrades, however, you will have to spend a huge amount of time dialing it in and practicing with it to make it 'perfect'... But hey! You like meandering for hours on end!

if you dont own a rifle anymore, you can go with the G98, but there are probably a few more parts you're gonna want to put in it... not to mention the time.

The G700 and G96 are both very nicely upgraded weapons. I have the G700 and it runs beautifully, fires 510+-5 with .20s. Get very nice range for the short barrel in it. I run it suppressed and people can't hear it at all past 100ft. The bolt on the G700 is very hard to pull at first due to the heavy spring, a little practice and you won't notice it after a while, I can't say if the G96 is the same but as far as I know they put the same upgrades in each of them. The rail is a bit much but if you like having your options open for optics its nice to have.
If you don't want to deal with upgrading yourself its a good way to go.

One dislike I have is that the barrel is rather short, can be swapped but you already payed for them to put one in.
If you were to get a M28, it'd come with a threaded barrel adapter but you'd have to get a barrel extension and the TBB you want, so for the same price as the ASGI bolt you get a longer rifle but you lack the rail.

Also looks like they give you a bipod and a spare mag with either rifle but you still don't have a scope.

If your looking to get a bolt then i'd say go with one of these two options, if your alright with a bit of a short barrel and rail go with the G96, if your more into reaching out the get the M28. It'll cost you about the same, and you get what you pay for.

for the OP the G98 will shoot a lot better than most other bolt action that come at the same or lower price.

weather if its worth the money actually comes down to the person not the gun. there are threads on this forum on how to be a good long range support (might not be in the first post of most threads, but if you want to run bolt you should have the patients to look through them anyways) see if the guide lines match what you do with an AEG or borrow a bolt for a few games. then you should be able the decide for yourself if its a good buy.

So, the G98 is better than most guns (excluding custom $1000 sniper rifles) and will be accurate at 200-250 feet?
I've heard that the Echo 1 M28 has 45 degree sears that break a lot, is this true? And What type of cut is the M28 barrel (AEG, VSR-10...)?

If I can remember right you can exchange parts from both the VSR 10 and M28. So what I can understand the cut should be the same as a VSR 10.
