Pneumatic shotgun?

Postby Icepick » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:31 am

How would I go about making a pneumatic shotgun that I could actually use for games? I used to make simple pneumatic guns to shoot nerf darts, and they seem like they would shoot some bb's pretty damn far if I made some mods to fit my CA M4 barrel in there.

Pic of one of my old nerf dart shooters, what could I add on to this design to make it work well? (Make a new one with the same parts.)

Im not sure how you would do it at all. I think you are more so just talking about a BB launcher. The amount of time it takes to refill the tank would make it very impracticable. Also, getting a sprinkler valve and converting it to a push button or some other hand actuation will work better then the valve you have on now.

I don't think this would work well as a gun, maybe a mortar. You can make sabots for bbs or whatever and shove them down the barrel.

My brother and his friend made a ton of these; if you get a schrader valve (off a bike tire) then you could have a guy aiming/reloading and a guy pumping up the cylinder. Something about the size of a 1 liter water bottle made out PVC. Make sure it gets up to at least 95 PSI. These work great as weapons of mass distraction, never really took the time to aim it as a mortar, but with a few riflemen guarding? This is a sound idea.

You can run a gas to the schrader valve with a paintball co2 tank, too. That's what I've got set up, I'll post pics if you like. Check out the pneumatic mortar topic.

Or you could spend the money you would put into it on 15 grenade replicas...

Mine actually only cost like $30 for the mortar. Co2 system is much more significant tho. Being the only guy out there with a mortar is much cooler than having some grenades, imo.

if you are going to run a gas rig, I would recommended using more secure quick detach valve(like on a air hose.

I was thinking of using a 3/4" barrel, then using a bottle cap full of bbs and shooting that. Thoughts?

Pneumatic mortars have appeared at games more than once and been used safely, I see nothing wrong with these. The usual ordnance is nerf footballs.

This is AP norm. I am not to interested in the shot gun idea, if i wanted that i would pick up a Tri Shot or a 6 round CAW Grenade launcher.

Pneumatic mortars I see no problem with, firing Nerf footballs of course. My only concern is that he is talking about firing bbs directly at people from a close distance, hence 'pneumatic shotgun'.

I know firing bbs directly at people is a concern... I may be dumb enough to ask about a pneumatic shotgun, but I'm not dumb enough to make the thing shoot 500fps and fire point blank at people. I would get the thing to chrono ~350fps with .20s and leave it at that.

But the thing is you can raise the pressure to an unsafe point very quickly.
