Ballistics Shield

Postby Smitty » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:31 pm

This is something that I have been working on for a couple months, and have finally completed. It took me a fair amount of trips to Jerry's and a lot of figuring out how to get things to do exactly what I want them too, but I am definitely happy with the final product.

It weights about 33 lbs, is 4'x2'. Its made of hardwood boards that I bent and glued into the curved shield form. The rest is pretty self explanatory.

I may yet paint the aluminum a dull black, but I am undecided on that.

Paint it black. Then you could do the ubber noob and paint the "shield kill" symble from COD on it.

Did you test the plastic you used for the window?

Looks good, but a paint job wouldn't hurt ;)

Maybe mount a dump pouch on the inside too. We did one for our shield and it worked well for ben (who was carrying the shield at CQC7)

Thanks Pickles!

I used Lexan for the window, and tested it with my 400fps aeg at about 2 feet away, not even a scratch, so I know I'll be good as far as that goes.

And a dump pouch isnt a bad idea, I was thinking of at least a clip holster for my gbb pistol, but a dump pouch could come in very handy.

I was expecting something that was poorly made (from some 13 year old coping CoD:MW2). A lot better than what I was expecting, to say the least.

Paint it black or navy blue and write something witty on it.

Fluffy: I was definitely trying to stay away from that, thanks.

As far as paint goes I'm leaning more and more towards a flat black, the creating of the shield left several scuffed and scratched marks on the metal sheeting that could easily be covered with a good paint job.

My vote is for a nice flat black, as well. Good work, it looks good and has appropriate weight to it as well. Some kid was running around in the woods at the Summer Slaughter using a homemade shield that weighed like six pounds. It was pretty janky.

Nailz, here is the PSC shield we used for CQC7 and a pictorial of how it was built. Hopefully it helps.
