(Fake) Ballistic Shield

So I've decided to make a FAKE ballistic shield for CQC airsoft. I started with a little over standard M.U.S.T. dimensions: 28" x 48", porthole is 5" x 12".
(Side note- While looking at shield designs, I came across this:http://www.securityprousa.com/peprpomoshfo.html. To me, it looks ridiculous; it looks so clumsy and high profile. Where would you even use that thing?! A regular shield would do fine.)
Here's a sketch:



I used 1/2" plywood.



Porthole was cut with a jigsaw, pilot hole made with 1/4" drill bit.



Sanded to perfection with 60grit.



Tomorrow I'll be going to Home Depot for a sheet of Lexan, preferably, if none is available I think 2 sheets of Plexiglas shall suffice. (IMPACT TESTS TO FOLLOW!)
I will also paint it a flat black. More pics to come...

Are you panning on making it the same weight as the real steel that is the same size?

Yes. It weighs approximately 10lbs now, and with all the attachments (handholds, porthole window, etc.) it will be around 13-14lbs, the same weight as the MUST shield used by SWAT teams.

Yes, I believe I have. It looked pretty sweet. What material did you use for the porthole?

I'm not sure what kind of plastic they bought. I mainly helped with the paint job.

It's probably Plexiglas. I'm sure that would be strong enough to stop a BB. I would feel a lot safer with Lexan, though...

Sweet. More info could be helpful. I've perused the general airsoft forums(not location specific), but I dislike them. They're full of n00bs and self-proclaimed "experts". All I see when I go there is "Check out my new 1337 delta snip0r!" and the like.

I'm building one for the same reason you guys built one: fun. It's just a little gadget to make CQC practices more interesting.

a few years back for a cqc game i put this together for my team. i don't remember it's exact dimensions but it's almost 20 lbs. i think it's 30'x42'? something along those lines.

used sheet metal, and bent it to keep from having sharp parts. and lexan glass for the port.





and obviously i hadn't added the straps for it.

Painted a smooth, flat, black.




I got a polycarbonate that was less expensive than Lexan ($65/yd!), I believe it's a variant of Plexiglass.




Here it is, cut and drilled. It's very clear.




Bolted to the porthole with six 1" bolts.






Handle and forearm loop installed.






My ingenious strap design.





And the ballistic shield is complete! I stenciled SWAT on the front, just for fun. It weighs in at 12lbs, just 1 pound under the MUST shield. It wasn't that tough of a project, and took a total of about 5 hours. I am looking forward to using it in the battlefield!
