Right, so after researching this one stupid, I think this is what its going to come down to. I'm going to have to just go ahead and buy the two things, and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for your guidance folks.

I took a look at what info I could find on the AI shell, and I don't think its going to be what I need, but I'll keep my eye on it.

EDIT: Wait. On the Real Deal AK-74, the tubular structure under the barrel. Isn't that just a cleaning rod, which means I could probably just dremel it off the CYMA to simplify the mount?

EDIT: Oh, look. On my wifes, you don't even have to dremel it. Problem 1 solved.

EDIT: Anyone got a bunch of AK spare parts lying around? I'm looking to add a receiver mounted sling swivel, like the one on this rifle. Any thoughts on the best way to do that?

Your local hardware store will have hinges that could do the trick. If you've got a metal body CYMA, I'd drill it and throw a couple of pins in it. I wouldn't trust the side of it to withstand welding.

There's also the amusing idea of taking the AKS-101, which is basically the AK-74 with a side-folding AKS-74UN stock, and cutting down the barrel, so that the front sight post is flush with the band where the gas tube clamps to the barrel, then mounting the M203. That gives a barrel length of something like 16.5", including the flashhider.

Can anyone confirm that math? I got that number by measuring from where the handguard meets the receiver, and measuring to the farthest edge of the gas tube band around the barrel, then measuring from the rearwost edge of the front sight mount on the barrel to the tip of the orange flashhider.

Also, anyone interested, that has an M203, would you be willing to give me the measurements from mount to mount, including the lengths of the mounds themselves?

Dear Dr. Manicotti,

Have my baby.

Hoping this letter finds you well,

David

EDIT: On a related note, do we think the OE Tech MOLLE triple open top stacker pouches have enough stretch in the elastic to fit AK-74 mags? The depth and width dimensions are pretty close, but obviously the AK-74 mags a bit taller.

they do, you just cant use the double stackers, and actually fit 2. You will juts have to go with the single depth and go with one per pouch

Right. Thank you much. I'd say all of this pretty well answers my questions, deals with the issues. Thanks to those who helped.
