Hey everyone I'm gearing up in preparation to deploy to Afghanistan in the spring and am looking for a good cheap plate carrier, tactical tailor is to damn much for one so if anyone has some good suggestions feel free to lay it down.
Hang it.

What's cheaper then TT mean dollar wise? Do you need side plate coverage?

Look into Diamondback Tactical FAPC.

Don't bother.

I went out and bought one with our unit and when we showed up in country we got upsidedown over and are not allowed to use them at all. They did issue some though, so get your supply off their a$$ to get them.

Yeah, I don't think they'll let you use them.

Also, you'd need it to take the kevlar inserts?

Your best bet is to buy quality pouches and start learning the arrangement you want for them, then just putting them onto your issued plate carrier. They will most likely make you use their plate carrier, but MOLLE pouches are OK. I suggest CB in color or Multicam, depending on your unit's SOPs and what you can get away with.

Infantry is a lil different than the air force. Word on the street is we are getting plate carriers but we have to wear a lbv and being in a mortar stryker its hard to move so we can take the lbv off and hang rounds in the pc. Our SOP is pretty laxed just as long as you are at sqrdrn standards.

They only accept a couple specific models and it has to have the kevlar inserts.

You can get kevlar inserts that aren't already sewn in. It was the use of those inserts that prompted Eagle to just start sewing them in when they began producing the MBAV.

But yeah, if you've been issued a plate carrier, I'd stick with that. Good chance that you'll be told to use it in country anyway, as others have said.

They'll most likely make him wear their issued kevlar inserts, their plate carrier, adn then carry their gear.

Your best bet is to get a carrier over the plate carrier with molle pouches.

The MAV is alright, though if you have a full combat load (at least for light infantry) it's going to sag really bad on the sides.

If you're in vehicles, you'll want everything on the chest. Tactical Tailor makes a kit that snaps onto your plate carrier and has MOLLE real estate so you can wear it as you need it.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy my lbv from TT a couple guys from my unit have them and they are pretty high speed, they buckle in the back so I can have all my pouches centered for firing from weak and strong. I'm going to have my dump pouch on my leg and grenade above my mags. Then my ifak somewhere.
