ALICE dump pouch

Postby pappyjump » Sun May 08, 2011 7:29 pm

Is there such a thing as a dump pouch that was used by our soldiers on their ALICE webbing? If there was an ALICE dump pouch, could someone spot me a link?

Use a gas mask pouch.

You could rig some up on a web belt but I dont know if there was one specifically made during that period.

Canteen pouches usually work as good dump pouches for ~3 magazines.

There was no Dump Pouch for the LC gear , that is more of a modern thing.
What you would do was either stuff them on your trouser leg pocket or down your blouse.

I'll second the gas mask pouch thing, but make sure to tie it into your ALICE belt. Other than that, yeah, put 'em in your trouser leg pocket until such time as you can refill them.

The standard was usually people going OPERATOR by tucking their BDU blouses into their belt, then putting empty mags down the front of their blouse. This became a lot harder later when people started using plate carriers.

Some used gas mask droplegs and either just jammed in teh sides or cut a slit in them. I still have a DCU one of those.

Another option people did was get their ALICE belt and put a SAW pouch on it between their mag pouch and their canteen pouch and use that. I liked that option the best when I ran an ALICE set up.

I think the idea was, you literally dumped the mag on the ground. Mags were cheap, and the commies didn't use STANAG mags.

The old M-17 mask bags worked pretty well to dump them in. However: The M-17 mask pouch is set up to open toward the front rather than the top. But you can clip it to the web belt at one point and use some 550 cord to tie the ring on the bottom front of the bag to an ALICE clip and hook the clip to your web belt. Then, you leave the front (now top) flap open and just dump them in.

Of course, back in those days, we were barely out of firing by ranks, so having to do tactical reloads was just out of the question. It was assumed that putting the empty mag back in the pouch you pulled the fresh one from was just something you did in between being told to kneel and told to reload. Since you had all that time, not having to ram the ball home and all.

We where not allowed to dump and leave our mags , for one , we didn't have many M16 mags as it was , we had plenty of mags for our FALs , but on long patrols we might not be able to get new mags .
