KWA Mark IV pistol problems. Please help

Postby Tactical Church » Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:26 pm

So i own two of this gun and there seems to be something wrong with the one i use all the time.

I have only used this pistol at 3 events and at each event it worked great but now it seems to not be shooting my bbs.

I at first thought it was the mag or gas within the mag but i tried the same mag in the other gun and it worked great.

To try my best at describing the problem to you.. The gun doesnt seem to charge all the way back. Its a semi automatic gun but it seems to be either having trouble cocking all the way back or something.

If i were to manually cock the gun with each shot then the bb does fire with what seems usual velocity.

But if i just pull the trigger in a repeated succession (which the gun is made to do and has always done properly) it shoots the first bb and then none there after.

I have been using propane on this gun without lubbing anything but i am not sure if thats the problem.

In any case if you can help or have an idea, then please write here. Otherwise ill just stop by AONW sometime soon.

This might be related: Mine was having no trouble cycling back, but was failing to return fully forward every few rounds, cleaning it *very* thoroughly and properly lubricating it fixed the problem.

You should put 2-3 drops of PURE silicone in your propane tank every 7-8 mags

Im scared to take it apart in fear of breaking something. Is the break down to clean it that your mentioning very difficult or fairly simple?

I recommend you thoroughly clean and lube it. Basic maintenance is easy, there is a video guide on the KWA forum which helps a lot.

Same with my KJW M1911. I use propane as well. I think it has something to do with the cold weather on mine tho... It work perfectly when the weather is warmer. I'm just suggesting, it could be because of the temperature. I tested it when it was around 35F and I had trouble instantly even after putting enough lube on the moving parts - the upper receiver will get locked and the gas will spew spontaneously. I rack the upper receiver back and forth and could not find what causes it to jam. I tested the pistol again at a warmer weather maybe around 50F and could not replicate the same issue.

Check the blow back chamber. It might be cracked so that it'll shoot, but it won't cycle properly. That's what happened with my KWA P226PTP.

Where did it crack? I had a little arm in my M9 PTP crack, and apparently it is not that uncommon for those little buggers to break. I know they're different models but when something like this happens that often...

Mine fractured up the side, and around where it narrows down.

this is a guide one this very forum that shows a full disassembly of most 1911's. Try field stripping first and lube ever thing first.

Jester, I had the blowback chamber break, not the piston. I've actually never seen that kind of catastrophic failure before...
Do you use propane or green gas?

Try using a lot of silicone oil and lubing all the parts back up again, I had the same problem and I did a very extensive thorough cleaning and lubing and it was back as good as new.

^+1

I've had this problem with handguns as well after taking them out for a full day's event. They will cycle fine manually, but there is resistance when they're fired in semi auto and it all but locks up my slides.

After rolling around in the dirt and grime all day, it seemed I was getting debris in my slide. Take down the gun and blast all the movable parts with some Dust-off or other gentle compressed gas cleaner. Then lube it all up with a good silicon job and it should help, if not get it workin again.

If that doesn't help at all, at least you know its a broken part and not some other issue.

On a side note I own three KWA MK series PTPs and if you use them with propane frequently in the field without stopping to top off your propane with silicon oil, you will dry out the internal parts and it could cause friction. Happens in the MK magazines frequently.

This is the video that someone else was talking about http://www.kwausa.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3157 . Overlubing can be just as bad as not lubing. You really don't need that much, you just need to do it properly.
