Upgrading my pistol...

Postby book42 » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:27 am

So... I've been seriously thinking about changing out my G-17 to a 1911 variant. I like a more compact look, similar to a 4.3, but am not interested in the "desert warrior" series. That's when I came across these: http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info ... s_id=33391

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these "drop-in" slides? I'm considering combining a Socom Gear MEU with the above slide. However, I'm not a huge fan of evike, and have had issues with not only their service but also their products.

Any and all help, as usual, is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

p.s. hope to see some'a you at Ash Bash 2011 :D

if you want something that is going to compare with your glock, then get one of the KWA 1911s. the WE based ones aren't awful, but they are not the top of the line 1911s. so far though, you cant get the shorter slides for the KWA as far as i know.

that being said, that slide will work on any of the WE style 1911 frames. but since its designed for the hicapa with its larger magazine/larger gas reservoir, you are going to see a dramatic loss in efficiency if you install it on a single stack frame and the cycle time is going to be slower as well, since it has to move a lot more mass than it is designed to. if you want the shorter 4.3 1911, id recommend just getting one of these:

also if you pick up a WE 1911, i would suggest doing this quick fix right off the bat:

Thank you so much for all the insight. I didn't know that about the hi-capa/single stack mags. And I definitely want to attempt to rock single stacks. I'm such a "ninny" though, when it comes to the look I'm going for: love the 4.3, gotta have a rail for a light, and has to have the threaded barrel (yes, I know, why put a silencer on a 1911? I'm just a sucker for silencers. Color me crazy. )

Again, thank you.

Regards,

if that's what you are dead set on, you can always build a gun from parts. i've got five WE 1911 pistols of various models and most of them were parted together from buying people's broken guns on the cheap and salvaging what i could. get the 4.3 that you want, and then look for someone selling a broken 1911 tactical with the railed frame. i might even have one laying around. then add the silencer adapter (i think those barrels have the internal threading for them) and you have what you want. alternatively, you can substitute a rail adapter for the railed frame, i did that on one of my pistols, i think the adapter was like $20 or so. made by king arms if i remember right.

I like the look of the 4.3. I would highly recommend parting one together from what you find in the classifieds; it will give your gun a unique "salty" feel that many would be jealous of. It is also considerably cheaper, but I cannot find a complete frame set...
