TM P226 gas inefficiency

Postby G36 FTW » Sun Oct 17, 2010 3:40 pm

Alright,

So I was asked by my friend to take a look at his Tokyo Marui P226; for the last couple months he has only been able to get 8 shots out of each fill of gas.

After field stripping it and finding nothing (that looked) out of place or broken, I tried cleaning and lubing with no success. It always gets 6-8 shots before running out of gas.

However, after scouring the web, I noticed that my friend's gun makes a weaker "clack" than other Tokyo Marui p226s, and a lot of seemingly wasted gas comes out the barrel with each shot (a visible blast of propane).

At this point I am thinking using propane in the Tokyo Marui for an extended period has broken something, but I'm not a proficient gbb pistol tech and am wondering if anyone has any ideas of what could be wrong.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT:
I have been testing it in warm weather and the pistol is about 2 years old.

Propane wont mess it up unless it's made to use other gases besides Green gas (Green gas is Propane with Silacone in the mix) any leaks in the mag (like botton or top of mag)

Well some people say the higher pressure propane (or green gas) would eventually break TM pistols because they are made to use hfc123 gas, I just though that that could have happened because it is 2 years old.

And the magazine doesn't leak (as far as I can tell :? ).

Yea, I've got the mad bull adapter with the silicone port.

And what could cause too much gas to be fed into the cylinder/piston?

LUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, straight up propane doesn't treat the internal seals of these guns well. Lube the mags, put lube on the top valve of the mag, like drip it in the gas port. Then fill your propane adapter with a ton of tube, gas up the mag, and fire it. Repeat. You'll start to notice that your'e getting 8 shots, next mag you'll get 8 with a louder pop on the last one, and then you'll get 9 and then 10 then... you get the idea.

the design of this gun easily gets dry, has happened to me twice. You almost can't lube it too much. It seems that the valves and pistons stick just a fraction of a second too long and vent the gas.

LUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I DID NOT INVENT THE INTERNETS FOR THIS

Wow, thats helping alot (sprayed at LOT of it), I'm going to put some more rounds through it and see if it keeps improving.

Nope, I only have 1.
If Calvin's idea doesn't completely fix it I'll grab another magazine from Redwolf.

Just wanted to drop in and say thanks Calvin and Sixgun, and that I had fixed it.

Some of the internal o-rings were so dry they were cracked (from not being lubricated), so after replacing them and uber lubrication it is shooting well more than 25 shots on one fill.
