Discussion of GBB (gas blowback) replicas.

For the gas blow back rifle crowd..

Postby Nox » Mon May 24, 2010 8:13 pm

Heya,
I have been seriosuly thinking on getting into the gas rifle part of the sport and I was wondering if anyone has had honest, genuine experience with the 'lower end' gas guns like AGM or GHK?
I know I might be asking alot, but I'm considering on buying one in the near future and if anyone has input on either of these brands I would greatly appreciate it.
M base or AK base is fine. I might throw common sense to the wind and get an M4 based rifle if it's attractive enough. Since these dont have V2 gearboxes, I'm already able to keep my lunch down when perusing them.

Thanks!!

The AGM Gbbr M4s are based off the WA system. The only real problems with them are:

-the bolt catch quickly wearing out (easily fixable)
-leaky mags
-HOT fps (like ~480fps hot in the summer), but this can be readily solved with the RA-Tech adjustable bolt carrier (but it'll cost you ~$100).

I've heard mixed reviews of the GHK, and I would go for the AGM m4 just because of much heavier aftermarket support.

Ghk is not what I consider low end since they designed and manufactured the gbb ak's the aksu which was first gen did have issues but their ak105 is what the aksu should of been. The thing you must consider is that gbbr's are a money pit. Look at how many after market parts are for the WA. It's like a real armalite or something. It's sick how many upgrade parts there is. The GHK needs just 4, albeit their big and per part they cost more but you get a better end result. Then Daytona gun made steel custom parts to make the ak's sound louder. Don't forget spare mag cost.

While you will not need every part, it will make the gun perform better, last longer, and in the possible resale it will keep the margin higher. I'd think it over wallet first then anything.

WE - You don't want one. They're cool, but you will have to fix it between every game.

The GHK that I've used worked well. Shot perfectly, mag worked, etc.

I'd recommend JG or AGM if you want to buy parts bit by bit.

I'm gonna get either a Viper or KWA.

Well, see I'm leaning towards the less expensive line of rifles because of the low initial start cost of the platform (Like AGM or JG) where it would be a long time until I got something as spendy as the WE.
I dont mind buying the parts here and there to get it up to snuff since it will allow me to get into the guts and learn how it all works as I go.

I'm thnkin I'm going to go with AGM or a JG if I can push myself to an M4 platform.
I might take the plunge soon to a GHK drop in kit - since it fits CYMA guns (with 'a little modification') I can drop it into my AK and switch between platforms when it starts to cool down.
Still doing homework on these - thanks everyone for your input.

the cool down is in the mags of the GHK's. they have a very large capacity in the AK model, the mags are heavy and all plastic so try not to drop them, and on initial gas inserting you need to wait some where near 20 minutes before using it. it needs to warm up but after that your good.

their were 2 clones of the ghk ak. a clone of it. then a clone of the clone. but again those were for the aksu.

now as for the spare bits. it's not just to get it maxed out. im talking just to perform. certain parts will break and need replacement almost immediately. get some spare o-rings and some silicone oil, your gonna need it. i also try not to lay on my ak mags when im using a vest. their metal covered in a plastic mold that can chip if it lands on say a rock.

Well what I meant from 'cool down' was when it starts to go to winter temps - the pressure will drop, so I can just flip it back to AEG until it starts to warm back up again.

If I get an GHK, it would have to be the AKSU - I hate the idea behind the folding stocks. Call me picky, but if I can't have that beautiful wood to shoulder, then it's just not right.
I'm still doing my homework with reviews, youtube vids and stuff - but it looks like I might be going M4 on this one..

If you do go with the AGM/JG M4, ebaybanned has a buttload of chinaman parts for it (including complete NPAS bolts, steel bolt catches, and just about everything else that'll need replacing). I'd be curious to see just how awesome of a rifle you could build from chinky parts...
