CO2 VS Green gas/Red gas/Propane

Discussion of GBB (gas blowback) replicas.

CO2 VS Green gas/Red gas/Propane

Postby Gremshaw » Wed Apr 28, 2010 3:43 pm

Now i have heard alot of people argue were I play wether or not Co2 pistols are any different from green gas... which one is better, but since none of us are any experts on pistols we don't really know, so I think it's time someone hears about it so we can set it straight with information from veteran
players who have used gas and or Co2.

Is their any real difference besides their sources of power?
Or is their a deeper issue?
(also i have a crappy gas pistol and i like the convenice of Co2, but i like the variety of gas pistols)

There's a chart that displays the inherent pressure differences in the different gasses.

Green Gas is propane, and runs at like 100psi (someone will correct me).

CO2 is a much higher pressure, and unregulated is more like 800psi.

Red gas is different than green gas. It's HFC22, and if you know refrigerant, you can actually get it and use it.

I have a KJW 1911 tactical that has a CO2 magazine and a propane/green gas magazine. With the propane magazine I get your average pistol FPS out of it around 300-305 fps. With my CO2 mag I get about 345fps. Using my CO2 mag isn't quite at CQC levels and shoots faster than one of my AEGs(330.) CO2 is also more portable yet more expensive. $1 worth of CO2 lasts me about 4-6 mags. $2 of propane lasts me about 30+ mags.

CO2 VRS GREEN GAS

The FPS is cover by many above, but a suggestion. If you like blowbacks stay with green gas for the self lubricating of the slide. Prefer FPS over Blowback feature than go with a non blowback CO2 pistol.

CO2 pistols with blowback in the past have cracked slides due to too much FPS. If that does due you in forgetting to silicone your gun will eventually.
