Types of Gas

I'm sure this has come up before, but I am wondering about the different advantages to the different types of gasses for pistols. I know of three, green, red and propane. And I know that red gas is better than green gas, but why is it better and where does propane fit into this all.

So my question is, is which is the best considering fps and price?

(my pistol is a WE 1911 rated for all three so information that I can get about all three is great)
