No, you're talking about the Tanaka shotguns, the only models to have gas chambers in the shells. This made them rather realistic (click instead of bang when empty) and gave some good performance, but also made the ammo excessively expensive.
Maruzen, and Marushin made similar designs, gas in the weapon itself, and the shells only held BBs, similar to most gas revolvers. Opposite of Tanaka; trade off realism and performance for a bit more practicality. My main issue with the Maruzen guns is that they're really sized odd. I believe the 870 and 1100 are 3/4ths the size of the real weapons.
The M1100 is the only autoloading shotgun in airsoft. They feed shells from tube magazines, M1100 has gas in the stock, and "M1100 Revision" has it in the pistol grip. The M1100 Defender uses an ordinary box magazine instead of shells, containing both gas and BBs. It also lacks the class and enjoyment the other ones have : )
They're very fun to use, but they aren't skirmish practical out of the box.
